Lately I've been very interested in different gluing methods. Whenever I want to test a fiber, I make a Vis composition, but if I want to test a gluing method I make a 7 ply. More layers means more glue, so its importance on the blade is higher. I was always very reluctant to use Epoxy in wood to wood bonds, concerned it might give a hard feeling, but I decided to give it a go. The result is a faster blade compared to when I used PU, Hide or other glues, with a sharper feedback and crisper (but still soft) feel.

    Available FS.

    Looks nice!
Does the harder glue make it more of a hitting/blocking blade rather than a looping blade? Or are the differences so subtle that it doesn't really make any difference?

Not at all, glue alone doesn't have that kind of impact in a blade. The essence of the blade is still the same, it's a relatively thin 7 ply with a soft feeling, suitable for looping. What's different here is the feedback, by sharper feedback I mean a more direct feeling in the hand. There is still some vibration, but the blade rings out less than with other glues.

Have you ever seen a gigantic Vis? Well, now you have. This behemoth is 170x163mm, so you have plenty of hitting area for chopping away from the table. The large head size slows the blade down when compared to a regular head size, but it's still a reasonably fast blade.

Bonus tip: It can also be used as a boat paddle or a pizza peel, so its versatility it's unquestionable.

    Available FS.

    - Koto / ALC / Ayous / Kiri / Ayous / ALC / Koto
    - 90.9g
    - 5.85mm
    - 170x163mm
    - ST (102x28.5x23mm)
    - 1313Hz
    - Balance: 3.8cm (High)

Well, with that head size there’ll be quite a bit more rubber needed to cover it.

With 5mm only, this blade should be slower than it is. Sure, you have the Sucupira and Ebony outer plies, which are two very dense woods and give it a solid feel, but it's not just that. There is some more mojo at work here, but I'm not going to get into that .

    Available FS.

    - 157x150mm

Hipnotic I have a couple of questions for You.
Is the hide glue sensitive to water? and do I need to take care when cleaning the rubber not to get the edges wet?

    Cheers

Hide glue is sensitive to water, that's why it's used in instrument building, because the bond is reversible. Acoustic guitars tend to warp as the years go by, due to the tension of the strings. That changes the initial neck angle and decreases playability. So, they inject steam in the neck joint to melt the glue, remove the neck and make the necessary adjustments, it's called a neck reset. This is a great feature to have in a guitar, you can repair it instead of buying a new one, not so much on TT blades...

I know this I own several guitars including an old acoustic Martin. I have done this procedure myself but I thought it was the heat that undid the bond.
I must be more careful with Barda then, thanks.
