The theory is correct, to stop vibrations from propagating you need to have a big difference in density between materials. The resonant frequency depends on mass, if you change the mass you change the natural frequency it vibrates at. In practice, this is more of a romantic idea... There are a lot of vibration modes occurring when you strike a ball, and how the blade vibrates is dictated by the construction, materials and shape. If the vibration you are feeling is for example at the tip of your index finger, changing the handle will do absolutely nothing about it. I've made blades with low density, hollowed wood, which had virtually no vibration, but I've also made blades with solid dense wood handles that had a lot of vibration. I've also swapped from one to another on the same blade without a perceivable change in feeling.

In the case of that specific blade, the biggest reason is that it has an extremely light Ayous core. Low weight is nice and all, but it has consequences on the feeling of the blade. An inner fiber blade with 83g and a balance of 2.4cm isn't common at all, but that low density core is also less stable. If the handle pieces were completely solid then I would say that there wasn't that could be done, BUT! they are indeed slightly hollowed. I still don't think it will make a big difference, but a dense handle might help to tame some of those vibration modes.

I'm back! (to posting 😅)

Not that I ever left, I've been working more than ever, but as I addressed in an earlier post, things have been a bit chaotic for me. I'm still not at the point I would like in terms of stability, but I feel it's the time I started posting some stuff again.

I will take the opportunity to once again apologize to all my customers (or potential customers), that have seen their orders delayed. I'm doing my best to recover lost time but it hasn't been easy. I also have a ton of unanswered emails, so if your seeing this and I haven't replied to your email or message, I will! Just give me a bit more time please 🙏.

So, I have been mostly focusing on custom orders, but I have also been experimenting a lot, mostly with fibers and lamination processes. I will start by adding a bit more info about fibers to the "Nerdy stuff", mostly general stuff but they should help to shed some light on doubts that are presented to me often.

After that I will start adding stuff on the shop. Again, they will mostly be experiments, so I'm trying to keep some variables in check. There's a bit of everything but you will see a lot of Limba, Koto and inner blades. I'm also focusing on the performance of these blades, so there aren't a lot of fancy handles (although I also like to put some bling-bling occasionally). Finally I will resume showing the stuff I make for others, I stopped posting custom blades a long while ago and I have many things to show (yes, fancy handles too)!

The composition of this one is already very well know, but this the result of an experiment with the lamination process, namely the resin type and pressure. It's a more direct blade than what you would think for this type of composition, the feeling is also a bit "dry", feeling almost as outer ZLC. It's stiffer, and slightly harder than expected too, although not too hard. The more direct nature of the blade makes it not very well suited for playing long distance playing, but conversely, it will suit someone who likes to stick close, maybe even with SP. The handle is relatively thin and slim in the middle and it flares out in the bottom, so will still be good if you have medium size hands, but have a high grip.
