One of the more boring Mens finals I watched in a while. Maybe I am imagining, but it wasn't worth watching at all.

In the olden days, you could see in all Chinese Mens finals, Ma long/Zhang Jike, Zhang jike/wang hao, FZD/Ma long used to fight tooth and nail in finals with lot of emotions.

Here I could not understand if LSD/WCQ were playing finals or practicing? No emotion, no outward display of fighting spirit, no nothing...!

It would be better for us if we do not have finals like this. I mean this is finals gold medal match!

Since Hina Hayata's Medical TO in her match vs Miwa in Yokohama Champions 2025 has been interpreted here, I would like to contribute my understanding of 'The Drama in Yokohama'.
What I gathered from Hina's interviews, is that since she fell asleep with her arm in an awkward position during a flight, she sometimes got numbness in her fingers while playing, and that this had a significant effect on her play. This happened during her match with Chen Yi in the US Smash 2025, which she had led 3-0 but ended up losing 3-4. She reported regretting not having called an MTO during that match to give herself the best possible chance to play to her potential. At that time, her long-time physical trainer (who had temporarily doubled up as her coach) had found a way to massage her hand so that feeling would return in her fingers. Before competing in Yokohama, her team apparently contacted the organisers to seek permission for him to massage her hand should she begin to experience numbness in her fingers again during a match. Whether in good judgement or not, this permission was granted.
Now, the timing of the MTO can of course be seen as to have been so convenient that suspicion about it isn't unreasonable, and we've all seen that the impact on Miwa at the time was harsh. However, the idea that Hina acted in bad faith, nonetheless remains speculation and doesn't amount to insight. And when other scenarios are just as plausible, such speculation should never be used as a way to smear someone's reputation.
Moreover, if there appears to be a certain eagerness to jump to conclusions in denouncing someone or casting someone in a bad light, it's a pretty clear sign that good judgement is not being exercised.

Get your facts straight before you make a post that alleges others of jumping to conclusions.

WTT was in the dark as well. Rather, it was specifically Nakazawa, and it's not clearly stated Hayata told him it would be for matches between teammates but she approached him on the day of her match against Harimoto, so we don't know whether Nakazawa made the connection and how much time he had to process the request before the match and with it the implications. The request was humored but the teammates were not informed of that. That's what the Harimoto siblings found contestable. Hayata's statement that she had done her part after the fact (that statement was made after consultation with JTTA, hence the delay as she explained) is simply shifting the blame around, and JTTA has never come out to confirm/deny or address the press on her statement. Months later, why has that Hayata, who had insisted she was not in the wrong, approached Miwa to "clear the air" to make the WD pairing possible?

P.S.

Thanks for the clarification around how permission for the MTO was sought in advance - if your info is correct it seems accurate to characterise the MTO as having been 'humoured', as you put it. As for Hina approaching Miwa to clear the air, this seems perfectly natural: Miwa had been very upset, and keenly felt that she had been put at a disadvantage. I'm sure Hina could see things from Miwa's point of view, and quite possibly with hindsight even regretted that Miwa hadn't been made aware (of the irregularity of Mr Oka being there to massage her in the event of a MTO, and the reason for it). None of this changes that to besmirch someone's character with speculative interpretations of events that we perceive from a great distance, is something that I personally find a sign of poor judgement.

No doubt a joke of a host all because Japan wanted to cut costs.

I don't blame Ryu Seungmin for giving Aichi-Nagoya 2026 an F after what the organizing committee prepared for them at the Costa Serena ceremony.

https://www.chinatimes.com/realtimenews/20260929001704-260403

(In fact, this French company had previously been embroiled in a scandal involving the malicious withholding of hundreds of millions of yen in payments to subcontractors during the construction of a pavilion for the Osaka-Kansai Expo. At the time, local industry players publicly voiced concerns that the company's financial instability and poor execution capabilities might jeopardize the Asian Games. Faced with external scrutiny, the organizing committee offered only a low-key response, stating it could not comment on contractual agreements; meanwhile, this fiasco—an outsourcing move driven by cost-cutting that spiraled into a public relations disaster due to mismanagement—has fully exposed the organizers' operational incompetence to the public eye.

According to reports, Seiko Hashimoto, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), publicly declared earlier this year that "failure is absolutely not an option" for the year ahead, with the ultimate goal of using the successful hosting of the Nagoya Asian Games as a springboard to bid for the Winter Olympics once again. However, the deliberate decision to abandon the operational model used during the Tokyo Olympics—an attempt to shed the stigma of the corruption scandals that plagued those Games—has instead resulted in a series of blunders and controversies, casting serious doubt on Japan's future capacity to host major international multi-sport events.)

https://www.worldjournal.com/wj/story/121617/9784199

(Affected by the Tokyo Olympics corruption scandal, some sponsors opted to adopt a wait-and-see approach or withdraw entirely. By late August, sources revealed that only about 700,000 to 800,000 tickets had been sold out of a planned total of 2.75 million—less than 30 percent. On the day of the opening ceremony, large sections of seating at the 30,000-capacity Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium remained empty.

Japanese media generally attribute the Asian Games' failure to uphold the spirit of *omotenashi* (Japanese hospitality) to the organizing committee's tendency to "constantly make excuses" and the loss of professional expertise from major agencies. However, some commentators have noted that even if Dentsu had been involved from the start, similar chaos might not have been entirely avoidable; the root cause lies in a broader decline in organizational execution capabilities across Japan.)

https://www.bigmedia.com.tw/article/1790857662227

(When the issues first surfaced, the organizing committee initially insisted that "no competitions were delayed," while foreign media criticized the organizers for shifting blame onto the delegations and foreign contractors. It was not until the eleventh day of the event that Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa publicly apologized. Prior to the opening, organizers had even arranged for someone to dress as Toyotomi Hideyoshi during an event on the athletes' cruise ship—a move that reopened historical wounds for South Korea. While Japanese organizations are accustomed to handling matters behind closed doors and downplaying issues whenever possible, the international sports community demands immediate explanations and public admissions of error; a belated apology is easily perceived as an attempt to evade responsibility.

The price has already been paid. The head of the Indian delegation bluntly stated that Japan's image had shifted from "excellent" to "poor," and Japanese media expressed concern that this tarnished reputation could jeopardize future bids for the Olympics and the World Cup. Spending approximately 370 billion yen only to end up with an international public relations disaster is, by any measure, a losing proposition.)

Stop talking nonsense
There were other curses, such as the one for the Qatar Open that was even "reviewed" by magazine Table Tennis World, which is managed by the General Administration of Sport of China, and run by the CTTA.

Jiang Jialiang has also talked about how he never won in Korea and it was not the place for him to play.

I think your boredom was not because of lack of emotion but because the match was not competitive. That said, sometimes, one or both players is injured, and they tend to not fight as hard when the gold is secured. I suspect this was the case for WCQ. But I think it was clear that LSD wanted to win and that WCQ tried some things but ultimately, since nothing really worked, he never really got into the match. And given how some have gone on about how the reigning Asian Games champ never wins the Olympic Gold, it is quite possible that WCQ had no desire to win regardless.

How did Japan come to the conclusion that they could use this shit show of an Asian Games to get the hosting rights for the future Winter Olympics, when the general public didn't give a shit about Tokyo 2020?

https://hk.on.cc/hk/bkn/cnt/sport/20260929/bkn-20260929113028276-0929_00882_001.html

([Reporting from Nagoya: Lee Chun Man] Japan attaches far less importance to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games compared to other countries and regions; consequently, there is little public or media attention or discussion surrounding the event. Notably, even major domestic newspapers like the Asahi Shimbun feature very few reports on the Asian Games, though one Hong Kong athlete did manage to make the headlines.

In the lobby of the hotel in Mishima City where I am staying, physical copies of the Asahi Shimbun are available; however, a close inspection revealed no Asian Games news on the front page. Even in the sports section, coverage of the Japanese team was sparse—taking up less than half a page—with more space dedicated to previews and results of a friendly match between the Japanese men's football team and Venezuela than to the Asian Games itself. Interestingly, the paper did mention a match involving Japanese squash player Watanabe Satomi and Hong Kong's Chan Sin-yuk in the women's singles placement round, giving Chan the rare opportunity to appear in the print edition.

Reports suggest that the primary reason for the Japanese media's lack of interest is the absence of top-tier stars. For instance, football squads are composed solely of U-23 players, meaning key stars playing abroad—such as Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma and Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki—are missing from the lineup. Another factor is how the event is perceived; within Japanese sports culture, the Asian Games are viewed merely as a "regional competition," with a level of intensity that generally falls short of World Championships or the Olympics. Furthermore, many sports in Japan boast mature professional leagues—such as Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and the J.League—that offer far greater commercial value than the Asian Games.)
