Hi all.
I am doing a 24 hrs table tennis marathon for leukaemia research over Friday 5th and Saturday 6th august. I have friends and team members helping out but I will be doing the majority of play.

Has anyone else done this? If so, do you have any advise

Good initiative! :D

I never done anything like that, but I think you should keep it fun for yourself by switching from matches/training routines/fun play every time to avoid getting too exhausted/bored. And bring a lot of food and drinks haha. Good luck man!!

It's a great cause. I have heard of lengthy table tennis exhibitions before, not sure if I have ever seen a 24 hour one to date so I admire your fortitude. What I can say is that when there were earthquakes in Christchurch here in New Zealand I wanted to do my bit, not only does this kind of event have a good cause, it is good for promoting the sport. All I can say is make sure you have the marathon in a place which already has or can easily have people traffic. Onlookers walking by is always a good thing to have. If you are using a venue which won't have many public viewers around then you have to put in the work prior to the event to attract people there. The best way to do that is to ensure there is some kind of incentive for people to come, ie competitions and crowd involvement things like that. You may choose to allow every person who donates to go in a draw and every 10 minutes a person is drawn out to sub in for 5 points or something like that. I look forward to seeing your progress, please do keep this thread updated and good luck.

I'm beginning to think I may have bitten off more than I can chew although I have some good guys there to help me through. I'm doing miles and miles on the bike just to try and make sure I've got the stamina for 24 hrs. I did 4 hrs at match pace last night and didn't feel too bad, just hoping I've not got much match pace play. I've got my son doing the footage for me so when I've done I can let you all know why it was a really bad idea..... lol

I think it won't be as tiring as cycling on average. Unless you play matches against players your level or better all the time. Just play easy for a couple of hours/minutes, fool around a bit, do funny stuff. As long as ur playing table tennis it's good I guess, it doesn't have to be 24hrs match pace right? Come on u can do it! :D

I've played for 12 hours in a day. The only reason I stopped is the club had to close. :) If you are having fun and you keep mixing things up, it won't be too much of a problem. If you start feeling like you are in trouble, think caffeine.

Someone did a rally for over 10 hours continuously, one ball, not missing. :)

Thanks a lot for all the encouragement guys. Means a lot. I feel much more positive now. Practice night tonight at draycott, always feel better when I'm playing. One of the other guys has got some hard bats which should be fun. Got a robot, so there should be plenty of variation.
