It seems more and more celebrities are taking to the table playing table tennis, whether that's backstage or at promotional events. Lets use this topic to post any videos, images of celebrities playing table tennis. Lets start of with Zoolander! Last week the actor posted a video on his Instagram page that was seen by a million of his followers!

Zoolander "Ping Pong is a big part of my life" :)

Here a recent video of Justin Bieber playing table tennis at ZMonline in New Zealand.

So can superstar celebrities increase the awareness of table tennis?

I think a tournament like german open could get more attention mediawise if having a few top celebs watchin' or maybe even playing right before semifinals or finals. At least from their fans...

When i get to my computer 2morrow i'll post some pics of celebs, i've collected some time ago.
Here's 1:

I think professional marketing and professional representation could help getting rid of that playground-activity image our beloved sport has.

The WCPP made it clear that tabletennis can get more attention if it's promoted correctly. AND THEIR PRIZE MONEY WAS WAY HIGHER THAN EUROPE TOP 16 TOURNAMENT and IMHO made the ETTU and the ITTF look like a bunch of school kids that can't get the job done properly. It's actually a shame...

More bad than good really. All this does is further promote this prevalent notion of how ping pong isn't a real sport. Everyone knows about ping pong already, but no one that I have known has seen it played at a superhuman level competitive sport (short of me showing them vids).

Well, i wouldn't see it all so negative. Just take a look at other sports.
In Baseball you often have a top celebrity throwin' the first pitch.

IMHO watchin' tabletennis should become fashion and celebs can help us all get the attention tabletennis deserves and raise the awareness for it. :)
Tabletennis should try to create a buzz around it like the WCPP did. The potential is there. It just remains unused, cause people seem to be afraid to think out the box and go beyond borders
;)
Look at Tennis or football. How many times you find all kinds of celebs in the crowd. From movie actors to musicians to politicians and so many more. Just to name a few.

One shouldn't underestimate the effect this can have. IMO

Yeah Beiber going at it, neither good nor bad, I get it...but are you telling me zoolander isn't promoting/establishing the stereotype of table tennis not a sport, just a mindless activity for mindless people? The commercial is making fun of ping pong!

On a recent NBA broadcast, Reggie Miller ( a retired very elite player HOF ) was playing and clip showed him serving sidespin troublesome to his TT challenged opponent.

That's exactly what i'm talkin' 'bout and what TT needs IMHO.
Thanks, William.

I think it's actually a bit backwards: famous people throwing the first pitch at the baseball game is mostly because baseball is so popular. Same with celebrities at basketball, football, tennis games - part of their job is to be seen, so they go where eyeballs are (and some are serious fans as well). I just don't think sport popularity can be driven by celebrity sighting, may be as a short-lived fad at best.

There are few US celebrities of various stature involved in table tennis at a decent level: Frank Caliendo (standup comedian), Judah Friedlander (TV actor), Will Shortz (NYT puzzle editor), Susan Sarandon (actress). Lots of baseball/american football teams have ping pong table in their clubhouses.

Interesting point.
Will Shortz is amazing. I read a very interesting documentary about him.
He really lives it to the fullest:

Good for the brain.
:D
Of course i agree with you.
But i think what tabletennis needs is to create a buzz around it like the guys from WCPP did with sandpaper-bats. And to get this you must See, there will always be "leaders" and "followers".
So what needs to be done is to get these leaders to the table.
But they shouldn't just sit there all day bored.
Find ladies & gents like Susan Sarandon and Will Shortz that are also enthusiastic about the Sport. But there are also many others.
I think even Usher Raymond has a tabletennis hall at his crib. I've seen a few posts of him on FB playing TT.
And it was obvious he was seriously tryin' to be givin' his best and still having fun.
Now that was better promotion for TT than for instance that Zoolander Clip above.
But as my mom always told me: Everything is every thing.
Just gotta make the best of it!!

If i can find Usher's vids i'll share the link here.

I don't remember the film very well, but there must have been table tennis in Forest Gump. Now forever and ever when you mention you are going to play table tennis at your club the automated response is "Oh like Forest Gump, the retard". It's been a while since I've seen it so I will head over to KickAssTorrents in a bit and check out where exactly this table tennis section is, because it must not have been long if nobody else remembers it. But yeah great job, keep up the good work for making table tennis feel "special". If we can't be anything at lest we can be the comedy act of sports.

That is very interesting. My coach asked me if I knew who Pau Gasol was since he didn't. When his coming to play for the Dallas Mavericks was in the works, he tried hard to get my coach to get him TT lessons. I wish that came to fruition, because that could have helped make TT a big deal in Dallas, and I would have gotten to hit some with him.

I was surprised this clip hasn't been posted yet. I thought someone like, maybe, Suga would've posted it by now.
So here it is. THE ONLY video you need where celebrities play table tennis.

I also saw one awhile back of Gael Monfils playing and he can rally quite alright.

Just shows that 'celebrity' is a relative concept. These are German football personalities (I happen to know some but not all of them from watching World Cup) - if you follow Bundesliga closely, they are quite famous.
Ah Ok .....
And this is the one movie i like vith my favorite actor [h=1]Christopher Walken[/h]

But the moves in the movie are so ridiculous ass from this jap korean movies
