Chinese National Games 2017

Isn' t it kind of funny that a guy who reached quarterfinal in WTTC this year can't even participate in national games? Speaking of competitive niveau in china. Seems incredible.

I get your point. He could have gotten chance to play in the men's singles at the national games if he had made to the podium (if he had not lost the match point in the quarterfinals against Xu Xin, he would have competed in the men's singles at the 13th National Games). He had been so close for winning that...

we will see fang bo against hao shuai very interesting match i think i haven t seen hao shuai play since his loss to michael maze back in 05 at wttc in china. Great to see he is still competing, even for someone who wants to see an end of chinese domination i felt sorry for him at that time losing this one in front of his home crowd. but that was maybe for a few seconds theni just thought what the heck maze just did there. legendary game and amazeing comeback :D

Hope we ll get to see some tv coverage from that one !

The TV table (1) looks to be reserved for the top seeded players in the individual event, so the match is not scheduled for TV :(

But maybe you can find a "private fan live stream/recording" on table tennis fans' amazing Chinese TT blog: http://tabletennissbsbb.blogspot.com/

Fang Bo, Hao Shuai and Zhang Chao played for Shandong Luneng in 2016 CTTSL. Although Hao Shuai and Zhang Chao are retired from CNT, they still keep good form and can beat CNT team A players.
Both Hao Shuai and Zhang Chao played at the National Games since 2001. Hao Shuai had won 2009 MD silver and 2013 MD bronze with Li Ping. Zhang Chao had won 2005 team bronze, 2009 team silver (he beat ML in the semifinal), 2005 MD silver with Ma Lin, 2005 XD bronze with Cao Xingni and 2013 XD silver with LSW.

Chances are pretty low for Zhu but I think Team Sichuan taught other provincial teams and league teams a big lesson: It is more important to have players who can score 3 points in total than having a star player who can win at most 2 points.

Looking at the results of team event, I think WH is the best with 3 gold and 1 silver out of his 4 National Games (2001-2013) and it is a pity that WLQ did not win a team gold out of his 5 National Games (1997-2013). In 2001, WH was supposed to play #3 in team PLA after Wang Tao and LGL but played as the core play at the end. In the final between PLA and Shanghai, WLQ beat both LGL and WH but Shanghai still lost to PLA 2:3. In 2013, FZD was still young and beaten by WLQ while WH beat Shang Kun and XX and finished the final with PLA 3:1 Shanghai.
Ma Lin has 1 team gold,1 silver and 1 bronze out of his 5 National Games (1997-2013), which is also quite impressive. For younger generation, XX has the best results so far, 1 gold and 1 silver out of his 3 National Games; in addition to 2013 silver, Shanghai is the team champion of National Championships from 2014 to 2016 and runner-up from 2011 to 2012, it is not too surprising that Shanghai finally won 2017 National Games. XX lost to Zhou Yu in the 2013 final and made the revenge in the 2017 semifinal. ML had only 2 team bronze out of his 4 National Games. He led Beijing to be the team champion of National Championships from 2011 to 2012 and it was a big upset that Beijing lost to PLA in the 2013 semifinal 0:3. In recent years when ML lost a game, Beijing lost; they barely pushed to the deciding game.

Very telling that almost all of these core players are World Champions - except for Wu Hao, Hao Shuai and now Zhu Linfeng and Lin Gaoyuan? And Hao Shuai is hardly a "no name player" in my book (I believe he has won at least one World Team Cup which counts as a World title in Chinese terms?).

And all core players to enter a final are Olympic Champions - except now for Zhu Linfeng?

So Sichuan entering this years final would be one of the biggest surprises in the history of the Men's team events?

(or maybe Zhu just has a VERY bright future ahead of him that nobody could have foreseen? ;))
