Choosing your stroke or deciding intention

When you play, are you actively thinking what stroke you want to play, or do you’ll leave that to your autopilot to decide? And you operate on your intentions?

I try to serve so that I can chose my next stroke but in the middle of a duel not so much.

During a point I mostly look for triggers, for example, to switch down the line if my opponent looks like he's about to pivot.

This is where eventually playstyle comes in. Playstyle will set your default (play a topspin stroke, for example) and what you want to do if opportunity arises (flat killshot? Again, just an example).
Everything else is then, roughly said, either a rescue shot or a facilitation to set up for your style.
