Dayum dai-lo,

Always ALWAYS ALWAYS pains me to hear you are in pain. Younger than me, but sounding like more of an old man than me!

Feel better!

OK, OK, i'll give you 2 points next time :)

I have not posted in a while. So i will give a short 3 month summary.

I have been playing about twice a week. Lightly practicing during midweek and a 2 hours coaching session on Saturdays.
Developed inflammation on the outside of my lower right wrist. Picture doing a forehand push and you try to flex your forehand for the push. And all you feel is a lot of stiffness in the effected area. No stiffness in a backhand push though. My doctor said i dont have a fracture, just need to rest it. So i rested for about a month and half. I am back to normal now. One of my coaches told me since i liked to practice serving a lot on my midweek practice, i may have caused the inflammation. She told me she use to see this alot back in her China provincial training days. Great, so know instead of practicing regular pendulum serves, i will concentrate on reverse pendulum serves....lol

After the wrist injury, i have been feeling better and playing for about a month now. Then i feel the dreaded achy back problems slowly giving me signals my cortisone shot is wearing off. I usually take one every 6 to 12 months. Low and behold this past saturday, i was feeling good and went hard with my coach for 2 hours. Then rested for about half a hour and one of my friends i have not seen in a while asked me to play. He is about 1500, so i took it slow and easy. Up 2-0 and leading 9-5 in the 3rd game....Bad luck strikes!!! Went to do a reverse pendulum serve, just got into the serve position without any movement. I get the dreaded back spasm and was done for the day. Luckily it wasn't major spasm, so i could still walk. Why couldn't my back last another week because i previously scheduled a cortisone shot the upcoming week.

I am writing this message after my cortisone shot, so i will be not playing this weekend. In 2 weeks i have another epidural steroid shot for my left lumbar. (I have left side sciatica)

Then a MRI next month or so. Then my first Stem Cell injection. All this just to play my beloved Table Tennis. Alright, enough ranting and back to your normally scheduled Chit Chat.

1. ZYL was correct on the edge call.

2. Very used to MXP now after 6 months, but i still miss H3 Neo. The spin for me at least is easier to create with Chinese rubbers. EJ in me is driving me nuts.

3. With all my injuries, should i switch to a carbon blade. In theory it would be less taxing on my body, but i love the feeling of my all wood 7 ply OSP custom made blade.

:D Henry

it makes a huge difference if der_echte is on your team cheering you for your powerful fh finished by rolling up sleeve, showing bicep and violently rolling sleeve back down with a thumbs up that requires zero utilization of vocal cords.

this!!!!!!!!!!

1. I am not sure she was but edge calls are missed all the time - LSW had one on the first game that I thought was missed.
2. Then go back to H3 and see what happens. Sometimes, you need to learn from experience. I hear this all the time from people who are coached or hang around someone who uses H3 well and it takes them a very short time to realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.
3. IF you can find the right blade, yes. They age better, but you have to commit to them for a long time.

Good luck with everything as always :D.

I have been contemplating, albeit in the back of my pea brain, to try my old Avalox P700 with H3 on it to see how I play... i have been playing exclusively with your American Hinoki/Butterfly Tenergy 80-FX for i don't know how many months and have a decent enough RPB in practice. It may not be the correct (whatever 'correct' is LOL) stroke, it may even be the rubber, but I'm getting consistent in placement, making the shot, and sometimes power. I have not tried the RPB loop as much, but the few times I've tried it, it's probably the rubber landing the shots and not me, but on the RPB loop, i can do your whip motion.

After the Avalox, will try Der's Nexy Amazon again and tear off the LP and add another inverted.

and sometimes, you have to be ruthless because the instant you give an opening, people will get the confidence to start playing winning shots.

yes, we discussed this many times on this thread.... NO MERCY! once the opponent is back in the game, tides and momentum shifted.

Congrats Sir!

Hit for 90 mins last night. With 1st partner, someone I've never seen before, young gentleman, he said he was rusty. I mostly returned the ball ... sometimes i added a little topspin, but most times just returned the ball. He video'd himself so he may be posting video somewhere and some old fat geezer will be in it lol

2nd partner, i've hit with before ages ago. he is recovering from injury. has to wear a special type of brace. i added spin on some shots, some i didn't... about 50/50. Happy with my RPB ... some strong returns on my part, most of the placement was where i intended. Will note that sometimes i'm still 'fixated' on using RPB and when the ball comes back in a different spot, i was not mentally fluid enough to switch to FH and stuck with RPB.

3rd partner, everyone calls Mommy. Have fun hitting with her. I mostly blocked for her. Some coach taught her RPB, she is like me, an oldschool PH, so she practiced some RPB... overall though, she likes FH and mixes the steady FH shots with a flat speedy hit.

May try to go to TT 2x a week soon.

Belated WAR Troublemakers!

Still looking for Monster's description of the action. I waz too busy in the action to give the initial verbals on it as well as he could. I saw video evidence today, it actually happened.

Hey, you know I am an EJ... I remember when a few months back, I watched some videos of me playing with Big Dipper - I got so nostalgic and I gave it a go - and I just realized that the effort was too much for me in my current physical state, so I let it go and I gave away the other sheets I had to a friend who uses and loves tacky rubbers.

Sometimes, we need to stick our fingers into the flame to remember what it feels like... it's easy to watch kids and coaches playing with tacky rubbers and to want to do it... but someone was telling me the story of Kou Lei of the Ukraine recently and that he was someone who did worse with tacky rubbers but couldn't use anything else when he trained in China. But when he got out and started using Tenergy on a regular basis, his level shot up.

... in case you are wondering .. this was the last three sets of a 3-1 victory .. there was another set that is not captured on video .. Der played some blistering counters to the backhand on that one ... which pretty much shut down any BH-BH bang bang aspirations from the opponent ... I thought this is the best way to give the details ... it was very exciting to watch in person ... just to give a context , this lady gave our 2200+ top player a run for his money taking him to 5 sets and leading 7-5 before losing 11-9 in the fifth...

Yes. Played a match a couple of weeks; won the first game 11-0, playing focused. Somehow lost that focus in the second game, arrived at 4-11 before I could even think "blueberry pie" and then had to struggle to regain focus, slowly, through a series of idiotic halfhits and unforced errors mostly due to acting overeagerly.

When I started playing for the first real time after the 30+ yrs break, I didn't hit so well. When I used an old sheet of H3 from 42&bp, my strokes/shots/game came back. LOL but i have been playing with non-tacky rubbers for quite some time.

So it will interesting to see how my strokes will be.

OSPH, the d 2x d shot you noted... I didn't know I made the play, I had to go real far to side and behind to try to get it... was moving away at impact didn't know I made it. Coach reaction next to table made me wonder if it landed.
