Anyone that is outside Germany are you able to watch TTBL Final on Youtube? They showed the previous matches live on Youtube but not the final?
You can only watch it on their website. Not the first time this happened. They know people are using VPNs to watch on YouTube.

Had the privilege of playing with a bunch of good players - again. Tonight they were eager to give me tips which was extremely helpful.

Short version, I have 3 major areas to work on if I want to get up 300-400 points.
Position, footwork and risk.

Position, I tend to move back after I've launched a loop. If instead I move forward I can close up the table much better, give them much less time and put pressure on without using much force.
Footwork, well that's a continuous work, but I really need more footwork and less leaning, falling over, shifting my balance too much.
If the above two points are OK, and I am well positioned and balanced to launch an attack... I often do it way too hard. I need to shift my mindset from trying to end a point with force, to attacking with pinpricks, getting my opponent off balance and only striking hard when that's the only option.

Case in point, I shifted from hardballs to short service, attacks over the table and blocking quickly off the bounce and behold, I instantly won a game.

I keep getting compliments from these guys on how spinny my FH is and how much effort they have to take to block it - but they do. Good to know my FH loop is definitely out of the gutter though.
I've been playing with Pro 01 again, and I don't know what I was so scared of... Yes it's harder and has a lot of punch, but honestly it's not that difficult to handle even on serves pushes and short placement. And it has a nice low balance. Still undecided if this will be just an experiment or if I move to use it as primary. There is just this nag in the back of the head that says I would love to eventually move to a Viscaria, and using this Pro 01 is a perfect step towards that.

Oh, no brace again tonight! Did feel something here and there but it's still manageable.

Went 1-5 in tournament play and lost about 150 points to Texas players. It was partly a result of lack of sleep and not having a car on Friday and being forced to Uber on low sleep to the tournament on Saturday since I decided to play regardless of form, but it was what it was. I lost my first 5 matches and won my last match and when I got home, I fell asleep for 3 hours before doing anything lol. Also I tend to dislike the venue where I played but I will treat it as a growth opportunity even with the crappy tables and strive to play better next time.

Sry to hear that NL,

I did the sac Open last weekend, played 4 matches in hurricane wind conditions (wind blowing crazy on one side and strong on other.

Defeated the 100 point lower rated player, gave big trouble to the 1900 to 2000 rated players, but was inconsistent in that wind, won vs 200 point higher rated player (That player defeated the 2000 A player).

Good tourney, won who I should, gave trouble to higher and win one higher player.

Now NL is really gunna think I sandbag when it was too much coaching and meeting LA ringers.

I'm starting to realize that while I have been training on technique for ages, I don't necessarily recall any training for tactics.
Maybe really basic patterns, but if everyone learns the same thing it becomes moot doesn't it?
I would love to do more if-this-then-that basic tactical training. I imagine stuff like, open up to middle, return block, pick the corner your opponent doesn't cover well enough.
Or like playing short until you can attack, server attacks, and you get two balls to finish an attack. If not, defense wins the point.

Maybe even more basic, one side plays straight, other side cross court. As soon as the cross court player gets the other out of balance, they're allowed to finish the point.

You would actually reverse engineer your tactics by using your strongest strokes as target.

So if you are very good finishing a point with your backhand by smashing it, what are the two or three strokes that most often lead to that situation ?
i.e. If you like to banana flick wide to the opponents backhand, you will probably vary short underspin and short empty serves to the opponents forehand. The empty pop ups you can smash, the pushed back ones you can banane to the backhand.

Sorry for your losses but never give up !!

I’ve been playing unofficial rated round robin tournaments more often since the end of last year and despite more training and participation my rating couldn’t go up and came back to the bottom of the range.
I wasn’t totally demoralized as there were a lot of very tight matches which were not that bad.
But today I guess was my lucky day as I finished 6W0L in my 12 men group. A 3-0 win against the guy who finished 2nd, another 3-0 win for the last and easiest match of the day. All the other ones were 3-2.
First match I should have won very easily but I didn’t have good sensations yet and was down 1-2. But without too much fear I won G4 and G5 easily.

Second match was a young chopper whom I lost 2-3 earlier this month. I was 0-2 down fought back 2-2 but failed at the very end. This time was almost the reverse. Won G1 12-10 from 8-10 G2 11-9. Up 7-0 in G3 but missed to convert 4 match points to lose it 13-15. He had momentum to win G4 6-11 but I managed to focus back and win G5 11-9 ! A great match with a lot of long great rallies. Staying patient and 100% focused was key.

3rd match against highest ranked player b4 the tournament. I guess it was his bad day ? He lost 4 matches today. See-saw match but I won in G5 11-5 . All games lost or won were with good margin. He had some great shots but wasn't consistent.

4th match was surprisingly easy 3-0 because the guy was 3W0L like me at the time, beating the higher ranked guys. He had short pips on BH but it didn’t really affect me. He really had a lot of problems on my serves especially BH and YG. TBH I was lucky to win G1 from 6-10 down to 12-10. He disappeared after that. He finished 2nd with 5W1L

5th another guy with short pips in BH whom I lost to 1-3 a big battle match a few weeks ago. I was down 4-11 6-11 7-10 as I cooled too much from refereeing a match. But never give up ! saved 3 match points. 13-11 11-8 12-10. Was down again 8-10 in g5. The key of the match was that in G3 i abandoned YG as i was making many serve errors in G1 and G2. I noticed that he didn't like my long fast BH serve with a bit of downspin from the middle giving me aces and heavy side topspin BH serve as well which gave me a chance to follow through. Then from G4 i tried YG again but not from middle right of table but left side of table, short with topspin to BH and i aced him many times. It gave me a lot of confidence to have those serves, and even 8-10 with my serve to follow i was very confident to save again 2 match points again. I made a very bad receive at 10-10 but he missed the penalty, and i aced him again on my match point.

6th match easy 3-0 win against lower ranked j-pen

It’s not the best TT I’ve ever played but today was my day with a bit of luck. Where I excelled today was mentally and tactically. I was also quite fit. Playing 26 competitive games total and not feeling tired. Also new YG serve is not yet super good (often a bit high and in tense moments can fail me) but at this level many players can’t see where I will serve and whether it’s topspin or backspin. I’ve been using it for less than 2 months.

The opponents were good but not super high ranked. Still it’s unusual to be able to beat 6 in a row especially with so many tight matches . Recently in this kind of group level I was more like 4W2L or 3W3L on a normal day and worse in a bad day

Too fast and too spinny for me...

Gozo 0- 3 Opponent

Three reels to showcase what little points I can get from this guy... The rest, he whacked me most of the time.

when the skill level gap is too big, whatever you do, even if you throw the kitchen sink at him, the ball still comes back... Haiyah! ( Imitating Uncle Roger sigh! )

Trying another equipment switch will see how it goes. I tried the Viscaria SALC when I got it with D80, D05 and D09c and settled on D05 because D80 didn't "spin" as as much as I wanted at that time. But was that really true? Time to find out as I use the SALC with D80 for a bit and see how it goes.

The problem is really that Garaydias are pretty blades but their thickness makes the handle thicker and I want a flatter handle without mutilating the handle. The SALC has this - the only problem is that the SALC doesn't naturally arc the ball, but its rotation, when you don't measure by arc, is actually pretty tremendous.

Will use for a few months and report back later...

You've got to be joking! Winning all those 5 setters was a fantastic achievement. Probably means that you were optimally relaxed for the whole tournament. Nirvana achieved.
Well done, my man.
Btw, what is a 'YG' serve?

YG = Young Generation, thats how Japanese like to call the (ZJK) reverse pendulum serve which is now widespread, its a bit easier to type YG than reverse pendulum serve

Wednesday's tournament was non-official and not very important, its possible to play this kind of tournament nearly everyday...but yes it was a very good performance.

Today there was a high stakes official tournament, the annual masters qualification tournament (my category is 50+).
i went there with my teammate, but to prepare well we managed to book a table in a small venue from 7:30am to 8:30 am as in the tournament there is no warmup at all (too crowded). its also a KO tournament, no 2nd chance...

For my first match i had a very good start 11-6, which made me kind-of-underestimate my opponent and when i lost G2, i started to panic and started to play with fear. i lost G3 with the momentum. Only then (why?) i started suddenly to be super-focused in the zone and play the best game of the day 11-5 ? iirc in this game i used a lot of different serves and i found out the element of surprise is what worked best against him as the problem in g2 and g3 is he got used too quickly to my patterns.

in g5 i had the good start and the lead until 7-5 but I felt I wasn't as much in control as g4 and i didn't use as many serves specifically i didn't feel confident to serve short and that was a big mistake. i started choking completely and lost 8-11. Retrospectively losing 2 points on my serve at 7-5 by not having a strong 3rd ball or not being able to switch to the right serve (perhaps ANY new one) was the biggest mistake. at 7-7 i won a very good rally but that was my last point. i played too passively the last 3 points.

if you ask me i would have rather not win Wednesday tournament but go through that round and perhaps next as the n1 seed of my group forfeited and there was a chance to have a not-too-strong opponent in that part of the draw...

As for my teammate he had to wait a long time before playing. (one table is for 18 matchs all day...) his opponent was much better than mine, but my friend is also much better than me. it doesn't explain that he lost 0-3 playing very bad, basically he choked from the first point. it was a very bad day for both of us

[TDLR it was my first and only match]
