Going to play my first rated event in almost 3 years this coming weekend. I am probably insane to return to this, but let us see how it goes. You can always retire lol :D.
How exciting!
Let us know how it goes.
Will you be bringing a tripod for videos?

Going to record for sure. Makes no sense to play without recording, the challenge will be moving my feet.

So I have to refine my forehand. I have modified my grip already but I need to stop arcing by forehand so much and go for speed as well as spin. I know what I need to do, it is just when moving or surprised, the bad habits show up again. Will need to get in some practice hours this week with the preferred stroke.

Short answer is yes or else I would not have continue to engage his sevice.

Strange it may be why I do not take a more active role in TT. TT to me is a hobby, something I do outside my professional and family life. I make decision all the time in my professional and family life, so this hobby life I do not want to use this mind of mind so much. I prefer to be just a passenger in the TT journey. Happy I am.
I dig Gozo's approach to TT - he seems to obtain a lot more zen and enjoyment from it than a lot of hypercompetitive stressed up folks I see in the TT world (though they probably will play better TT than Gozo, but we all have a ceiling eh).

Have you seen those CEO or business owner who comes to join a flower arrangement class or cooking class or drawing class or pottery class? They have a professional and family life outside of this hobby life and they come in just to be in a zone that is totally unrelated to their real life.

Thinking about competing in a tournament 3 hours away from me in 45 days, but it starts at 9 AM. I don't want to have to get up at 6 AM and drive haha.
Drive there the night before and sleep, lol.

I recommend arriving the night before too. But it would mean more expenses for you - accomodation.

I will be in a similar situation where there is a tournament in another rural town that will take me 3.5 hrs to arrive. I am booking my leave so that I can arrive the day before, play, then have some time to do some sightseeing after.

Played my first session back in the rural club.

I thought my touch would be superb, after a rather intense tt week for me.
But it seems like without a proper training partner, my skills drop significantly.

I could only arrive late today due to work, and by the time I got there, my only available training partner was playing with someone, and after, he had to leave early, so I couldn't warm up with him.

I played the next strongest player twice, beat him 4-1 first go and then maybe 5-1 second one (can't recall exactly). Although the set scores were in my favour, I was not happy with my play. I did try to bh open up more, and some were landing, but some weren't. I wasn't too happy with the %. Also, without someone to warm up my fh, I was missing shots.
Sadly this guy is unable to play at our comp due to some family issue.

Before the end, I played a young man. He has been improving significantly, especially in his rallying ability. I used to beat him still when I had a -9 start while he starts at 1. But he has changed his set up, and now he is doing much better. He still can't really serve well, mostly top/less top spin and trying to ambush the angles etc, but his rubbers are so weird.. like they just absorb all the speed away, and doesn't take much spin, so he would be doing much tennis strokes but the ball doesn't really kick, it just goes over with so little energy that I lost the first set horribly before picking myself up to win 3-1 (and this is with us starting at 0-0). It is like when I expect the ball to come towards me but it just drops without coming much forward.. So I missed alot of shots.
He will be in the comp, so it will be interesting to see how he goes against others and myself there.

I can't play anymore tt until the comp in a week's time. I am both excited and a bit nervous. I think we have just enough players to make the comp work.

This tournament is also in a rural place. Giant RR format which is fun and also incredibly draining from the only other one I played.

Hello friends,

I need your help. Take a listen to Hugo's BH. It seems when he hit his BH, I seem to hear a woody sound. Is this sound of bottoming out? In particular the 4min25secs BH hit.

My set-up also make a similar sound when I hit my BH. I want know whether this is the indication of bottoming out or not?

Assistance required. Thanks friends.

The best way to help us answer this is to show video of what you are doing when you produce that sound so we can see whether it is anything like the speed, spin and power Hugo is producing when he does that shot, In general, I like the way you pick pro players like Hugo and Harimoto to analyze your ,game. It reveals a certain level of Dunning-Kruger. But if you swing hard with thick contact to spin the ball, and the ball dips with heavy rotation even with your thick contact, yes, that is bottoming out. That's what hard sponge and a strong pip configuration to some degree should allow you to do close to the table.

thanks Next. Dunning-Krugger: I learn a new vocabulary today.

Will try to take video and show tell. I noticed it last week and as I was watching random YT that pops up in my feed, I noticed this similarity.

Using Pro video to explain is simple because their videos are easily available.

p/s Next, leaving me aside, is that sound that Hugo make with his BH at the 4mins25secs time-stamp what you would say is the sound of bottoming out? Can you tell?

In general, all contact gets to the wood/blade, it is a matter of degree. Most people say bottoming out when they are arguing that the spin they are producing from their equipment is maxed out relative to the stroke speed because the rubber is too soft or the sponge is too thin so they couldn't get the spin they needed on a powerful shot. While the concept is somewhat real, the idea is usually an excuse for hitting too hard or not timing the ball properly - just use your equipment to produce accurate shots and if not change it and leave the idea of bottoming out alone. All equipment has tradeoffs.

Finally won my table in the Round Robin after my 2 month slide post covid. Feels good to get some wins against my sworn enemy- long pips. Going to try and train as much as possible for the next month leading up to the a local tournament.
