Oh no, saying that in an EJ discussion is like giving out a license to kill.

I'll stick to my original idea then. Use that for a while, because invariably everything will feel off for the first half a year or whatever. Then once the rubbers start to wear out I'll think about it more. My only rule is no Tenergy and no 200 dollar blades for now.

Will any 80-90g 5ply allround blade be fine? I think I should stay away from 7ply and obviously carbon.

I think you could get a Tibhar Stratus Power Wood and FXS on both sides and it would probably be fine for you. It could be FXP too. I like MXP and FXP better for me than the S versions....for me, they feel more alive and dynamic. It is not as easy to generate spin with them but they are more dynamic. The S series gets great spin but I felt like you needed really strong impact power to get what they can provide. So, I would say the S series may be better for players who are a little more advanced and P series is easier to use in general.

But, as with all equipment, different players will have different opinions on any piece of equipment.

Really. I was going for FX-S because I was afraid FX-P would be too fast on the backhand and just fly out every time. My original pick was FX-P, though, but I read more into it and decided on FX-S. So perhaps it's more of a thing for advanced players who can sink the ball more.

The reasoning for H3Neo on forehand is because I want the impact requirement to be higher. I had a big problem with not shifting enough load through the legs. Tackiness also make serve receive easier. Is it a silly idea?

It may be helpful to post a video of how you play now so others can give a more informed suggestion as you may have improved alot since last time :)
To do that, I would need to play first. To play first, I would need to get a setup. 😅

I am probably worse now. I haven't really played since about 2018. I don't think all the bad habits have undone themselves just like that.

With any luck, perhaps someone will borrow me their setup for a minute at the club and they might film it and I can post it here. Otherwise the first time I hit a ball again will be with what I got.

I think you should just buy whatever you're drawn to at the moment, it is more valuable to have something you can hit the ball with and to actually play with it than it is to worry about the details and intricacies of specific equipment

Yeah, probably. I will take Carl's word on the FX-P over S, I was originally drawn to the P anyway. H3 is cheap, so I guess it is not a big loss to use it for a while and just make my own verdict on it.

I didn't think I would be ready for an OFF- blade, but in truth the Evolution was a bit slow off the table. With the new ball I suspect this is exaggerated. OFF- may be more "long-term viable" as I do not want to keep changing blades around for no reason.

What I said about FXP is how I like them. You might feel differently than I do. Nothing wrong with trying H3 if you want to.

The blade I suggested should be fine. The blades you were looking at would be as well. With a rubber like H3 on FH you probably would be better off with something like the Stratus Power Wood though. Not super fast, but faster than what you are looking at. It should be fine. But choose what you want.

Thanks, I guess it is decided. Build quality looks good on the SPW, and a lot of people seem to have moved up from an Allround Evolution to SPW, which is my case as well. I guess I will go with my original plan and the slightly faster blade and then forget about it for a few months and just play. If I hate it, I can always change. It can't be worse than worn-out 729FX.

I'm local to OOAK, so I'm not too stressed on when I buy the setup. I can just go there to pick it up. I do wanna figure out the program at my local club first, though. I suspect they are open to newcomers, but you never know. I'll play with anyone anywhere, but I don't know how the culture is here.

On that note, is anyone local to Adelaide and wants to hit? I'd be happy just blocking for you if that's what you want; I need to get some feeling again.

I saw a few matches of Germany's Xiaona Shan and her high toss serve... maybe I copy her action.

She tosses ball to ceiling... and when ball is at apex, she removes her arm towards her side and face... then caresses her face with her left hand as ball is falling, then removes her hand and impacts the ball.

Good to see you guys as well!
Whats up Archo? Did you move to Australia? If so, how are they playing down under?

So i bought a big enough tripod to film matches... turns out i still had one and the thing i was missing is a good way to attach my camera. Plus I broke my good phone. I wont even bother recording with the shitty one i am using now.

Any experiences with Go pros? I think my flatmate has one laying around, might give it a try.
Concerning my tt... i was busy with growing up... moving, working, studying, getting a new girlfriend and so on.

I am still playing and slowly improving.
Most of the free evenings (as i work nights a lot) are spent teaching youngsters, so i am lucky if i get one training session in per week.

Just today i had a match in the same place as the champion league game of our city against Manchester City (soccer)
we won 8:2 but it was a hard fought victory. I notice i get most points with my service and third ball attack, after that i usually get scared and back away too much from the table and can't finish the points like it should be done.
And i am not consistent at all... if i manage to really concentrate for a minute i win my sets super easy like 11:2. But i guess thats the hand a non frequent exerciser gets dealt.

i think i got a tennis elbow :-(

IIRC i got it 2 weeks ago when i used an elastic band to do some stretching. It was a little bit painful but still possible to play, but yesterday i couldn't even hit a ball, i had to stop after 1mn of BH to BH warmup.
actually, because of the tennis elbow, my shoulder is aching again.
recently my wrists are sore also, i think thats mainly because of keyboard / mouse / iphone (+TT)

also when i wake up, it takes a few seconds before im able to move my fingers, my eyes are blurred also for a few seconds. i guess im becoming an old man.

didn't manage to have an appointment with a specialist before next wednesday.

@Boogar

Yep, I've been in SA for a while. I went to a club today and hit a bit in the freeplay casuals. Level is quite low among the seniors and whatnot who can play during daytime hours on a workday (lol), but it's just right for me. Easy balls to build some consistency off. Kind of inbetween work now so maybe I can get in a few sessions for some time.

Coach liked my forehand drive and used it to demo proper technique, and everyone was impressed with the serve, although I think it's dogshit, nothing on the ball apart from a fancy technique. I did get some low, short, heavy-ish backspin a bit later, though.

Now I just need to check out another club later who are a bit of an easier commute.

By the way, I played with some unknown 5ply wood blades, and with Tenergy 64, Skriver, Rakza, Hurricane 3 and something else. Very worn-out, but enough to hit with. I preferred Hurricane 3 the most.

I'll get my own setup soonish, though.

EDIT: I thought about it more, and because my backhand is very elementary, I think I will save some money on the FX-P and just go for Sriver or Focus 3. I think those will be okay to build up a bit of a brushloop and block and then go from there.

Looking at my current game, I think I have been trying to work a bit too hard on weaknesses. There are two things I tend to do reasonably well - attack and block. The main thing I do poorly is read the opponent's spin and return serves. I think I will focus on enhancing my fitness so I can attack and block better - if it affects serve and serve return, great, but focusing on what I can't do isn't going to get me anywhere at this point. I just have to expand and dial up the aggression range, and the defense/consistently range.

The other problem I have is finding the right balance between getting stronger and getting leaner/smaller. I think ultimately, I should get leaner and more muscular and make TT secondary. Just thinking out loud...
