Hey all!

For my last review of this month, I managed to make some time for a blogpost I really wanted to make for a long time, the comparison of four inner DHS blades I've played (and still play) a lot with and that I really love: the DHS Sun Yingsha, Wang Chuqin, Long 5 and B2X. They are similar in a way, but still with their own clear characters and personality, so they fit different play styles and philosophies (plus the handles differ as well, very important!)

So here is the full blog link: https://www.tabletennisequipmenthelp.com/blog/dhs-inner-carbon-blades-comparison

DHS Sun Yingsha, DHS Long 5, DHS Wang Chuqin and DHS Fang Bo B2x.jpg

And here's the TL;DR if you don't have the time to read the full wall of text:

CategoryBlade ranking
Composition, Weight, Handles, Ply ThicknessAll 4 are ayous/limba with inner AC (aromatic carbon), ply thickness and handles vary. Similar weights
Speed, Control & Gears (High to low speed)Long 5 > Wang Chuqin > B2X ≥ Sun Yingsha
Feeling, Vibration & Dwell (High to low hardness)B2X ≥ Sun Yingsha > Long 5 > Wang Chuqin
Price & DurabilityB2X is low-cost, the others premium, they are fragile but durable if sealed and handled correctly.

Hope you guys will enjoy this review and comparison and if you have any questions please let me know!

Take care and thanks for reading!

Victor

Ps. Just for some fun, in the last weeks, I sold one of the blades to a friend, so I didn't have the box anymore, so I had to ninja it into the hero image with claude (I had an old image on the same room floor, so that helped haha Let's see if you can spot which one without checking the full blogpost hahaha and yes, all the other images are real (as you can see in the shit image quality and composition, I'm so terrible at those things), no AI slop with me (ever) ;)

It's funny you find the long 5 to be less dwelly than the wang chuqin, I actually think the opposite (even if the difference is minor - and I am actually comparing your Chuqin with the W968 that I was using more recently).

I have tested it quite a lot this summer but in the end settled for the Freitas, that gives me more speed and ease of use and doesn't take away too much feeling for me.
Now I have given the Chuqin along with other blades to a couple of our good teens to test, they are now at a national level and ready to change to their first "serious" blade. so it may find a second life in their hands.. otherwise it will come back to papa who will be happy to hold onto it 😁

Onto it.

Could you please explain how the Freitas ALC compares with a VIS-type blade?
I’v benn thinking about switching to get a bit softer feel

haha yeah, it's terribly subjective when it comes to this level of similarity, but yes, I find your Long 5 to shoot a tiny bit faster than my second WCQ, but my new one is different than the one you have, I also feel the one you have was a bit faster (one was 72% and heavier the other 71% and lighter, can have an effect, your Long 5 was 91g so not suuuper heavy) but yeah, its so minor! Really hard to notice in low gears, I mostly noticed on full all in shots :D

Interesting you settled for the freitas, how is the handle btw? :D

haha nice, always good to bring back to the upcoming young talents, im sure they will make good use of it!!! And im also happy it got a third life, recycling is good for the world!

I have never played with a Viscaria type blade, I have only tried them here and there: point is that I really don't like their feeling especially on forehand topspin (I have quite a big movement on forehand, and whilst I have been trying to start it higher, I tend to start low and wait for the ball a bit longer than is recommendable nowadays).

With VIS type I always feel I am missing a bit of dwell and a bit of spin., and especially in (forehand) counters I would have to change my movement quite a lot, it's just not my natural movement.
Freitas instead surprised me, it is fast of course, but the adaptation coming from W968 was not that much (it is MUCH easier when you are out of position as the wood helps you quite a lot more and is not as heavy and head heavy) and I feel like it has that little extra dwell and spin that I always feel missing from the VIS types.

Handle feels extremely comfortable for me, but I also have to say that I am not really fussy with handles and don't give it too much thought, my hand grips the handle quite low and I never had any problem with any wings or these kind of things.

Longest adjustment for me was mainly on the shift of weight towards the handle, which was exactly what I wanted, it just feels so much more nimble (it's also 195 grams as opposed to the 210 grams monster that was the W968 I was using).

Same experience with a Viscaria on my side, and I played with it 1 year or so.

Cool cool, good to know, yeah, you will feel that difference hahaha 210 is a monster indeed 😎

Supposedly, HL5 has longer dwell time and softer than H SYS and H WCQ, and probably slower. But not sure how you measured the speed.

So how I measured is with the same rubbers (H3N, Rakza Z + BD5 on FH, 8-80, G09c and nuzn 48 on BH) and mostly just my own gut playing games and training. I measured the overall speed, and decided to take the average of the highest gear, so when I went all in for my shots, which one had balls kicking harder and flying long more, and that was the Long 5 for me, but again, it's always subjective to so many factors that's is hard to agree on it 100%, this is just my experience :)

On the hard/soft im a bit more sure, I often felt my specific test WCQ being a tiny bit softer than my test Long 5, but again, it depends on a lot of factors and I don't measure scientifically so always take all my reviews with a pinch of subjective/personal salt :D Hence why I always enjoy discussing with other fellow players to see where the potential conflicts may be, that makes the conversation better for anybody looking!

PS. I also boost all DHS rubbers except 8-80 so it can also be a difference of booster this week vs that other week, all factors matter when you talk small differences
