What??? what happened to Viscaria?

These days I am playing with Donic Ovtcharov True Carbon. I know for a fact that Dima doesn't use it, but it is still an awesome blade and I am very happy with it. Kind of curious actually why he doesn't.
Nothing stays the same, eh.

I know. After all those years!

The reason I switched is that I wanted round-ST handle and for some reasonable amount of money, which meant there is no way on earth I would buy an old ST-Viscaria. The True Carbon really plays a lot like a Viscaria and I love the handle. The one I am using is actually much better than the custom ST Viscarias I had made because the handle is a better shape. I had tried a ZJK-ALC in ST but for some reason was not crazy about how those woods played, even though I liked the handles pretty well. The two ZJK-ALC ST blades that I have feel really dead. I should sell them.

My preference for the round-ST handle is something new. I had never actually tried it before after decades! Actually, not quite true. I tried it once with a TB-ALC, but that blade is so square it never felt right, which is the same problem with the custom ST Viscarias I got.

So the Donic True Carbon works well for me, and at a good price. (Well, at least one of the two of them that I own). And so now I have a bunch of Viscarias in a closet.

By the way, the ST handle has improved the speed and ease with which I switch grip between FH and BH, and my wrist and forearm seem more relaxed in general (some of that, though, is from some other stuff I have been coached on lately). Oddly enough, with a more square ST handle, I found personally that the grip change was actually more difficult!

Handles can matter a lot for some players. I am one. I never really knew that.

No more thread hijacking from me though. I really wonder if Dima will stick to the Chinese rubber. That would be a step to far for me I think.
