It sounds like you may have got nose out of joint with the coach and general "elders of the club".
You are in a match, as part of the tournament, and then you are moved? Or were you playing with the guy as a practice? The latter is understandable - the former seems
very petty as others have said, and would not feel nice to experience - but it may be explained by the above.
In my limited experience clubs can be kind of cliquey and if you enter as an unknown quantity with something to prove it may indeed rub people the wrong way (especially if trying to
knock up on top of the tables
).
Without being there to see the full picture, it sounds like something went wrong, but you might find you can talk your way around it at some point with the owners of the club. No need to get confrontational, just express "misunderstanding" and ask for clarification.
In time water will find its own level, as will your skill level with your opponents.
