it's hilarious how overweight solja always got the spot yet super athlete winter always got left out.
It says more about your understanding of athleticism and TT than it does about the players. Solja was by far the better player regardless of how athletic Winter was. This is not unique to Germany either as Liang Jingkun still exists as does Sun Mingyang or even Wang Tao, all players who took up real estate that could have been given to worse but supposedly more athletic players. And Waldner was far from the best pure athlete on the Swedish team.

Solja ate fukuhara for breakfast and she's also beaten Ito, Ishikawa, Hirano, Feng Tianwei, and Doo Hoi Kem to name a few. Winter is great but there's just no comparison.
It's mind-boggling that Solja has a winning record against them all (Hayata as well), except for Fukuhara (2W2L) and Ishikawa (2W3L). As for Winter, she has a precious win over Ito when she was still in elementary school and that's it...

She needs to thank god and all the saints for being born a leftie.
As a rightie not being a very physical player it would have been very difficult for her.
I wonder if it was a coincidence or it was done deliberately to have an advantage both in her case and timo's knowing they both come from hardcore tt families.

Solja was a very physical player, her ball quality was extremely high, confusing relative footwork with physicality is again speaking to your level more than reality. Being stronger and heavier gives the ball more power and is a tradeoff with being lighter and quicker. I do think the maturity of the plastic ball with ABS didn't do her favors but her power and spin was a strong part of her game. It is easy to forget now that she and Franziska almost eliminated the gold medalists in XD in Tokyo.

The main issue for Timo and her is that developed a style when they started playing that didn't hold is strength as equipment changed.

If you read it then the problem is reading comprehension.
I clearly comprehended what was written, Solja is a better player than Winter, Waldner was a better player than Kong Linghui, Liang Jingkun was a better player than Calderano, fitness had nothing to do with it. Maybe you are bosom buddy of thr coach that tried to get Solja off the team because he felt she was unfit and overweight. The reality of that dealing with fitness issues in world class athletes is a very complicated topic and it is annoying when people make light of it based on causal uninformed statements that do not account for many of the nuancea.

Oh, my level is on tape. Do you have video to share to show yours? Anyone saying Solja doesn't play physical is clearly not a TT player. In fact, Fukuhara complained that the amount of spin was beyond what she was used to playing against.
I saw all the videos in your YouTube channel but I haven't seen one where you are playing table tennis

What about your level?
I confirm NL for years has played at a level that less than 10% of players reach.

Anybody with any half-azz understanding of TT can look at how/what NL writes and know that NL is not making it up.

When NL says such and such member is blowing smoke, there is a very good chance that is a fact.

Don is talking a LOT of smack challenging NL and never having researched him and learn what/who he is.

Shan Xiaona says she doesn't feel lucky at all that she gets to play singles after Han Ying's injury. According to her, she has no chance for a singles medal anyway, but Han Ying withdrawing really hurt their team medal chances and brought down the entire team morale.

Petrissa Solja: Did I retire early?
I think her back issues made training and playing less enjoyable. I think if she were injury free in a way that allowed her to continue to maintain/improve, she might have stayed on. But pain makes you question everything, especially since she had achieved so much.

Due to YING'S injury, you are now also competing in singles at the Olympics for the first time. What are your expectations?

“For me, the team competition has always been more important than singles. But I will, of course, try to play as well as possible and hope to advance a round, maybe even two with a good draw. It is good that the singles come before the team competition, so I can get some play time before the team event."

The team is still strong without YING. What do you think is possible?

“I watched on TV when Ying suddenly got injured again in the singles. It still feels like a bad dream that you want to wake up from. She worked so hard to make a comeback after the cruciate ligament rupture and was in great form again, as she showed in the semi-final. Then such a serious injury again! Of course, her absence is a huge loss. But now I try to focus on my tasks and be there for the team. We are still strong, even if the loss of YING reduces our chances of winning a medal. We can still go far with a good draw."

Who wrote that article? The first paragraph is already filled with factual errors.

The German Women's Team clinched the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. From that team, Xiaona SHAN will be on duty again at Paris 2024, along with Petrissa SOLJA, who is now a reserve player.
