I actually think Fang Bo overperformed expectations against Kanak moreso
Let's not focus on Fang, I tried to downplay expectations on him once (not sure when) and got shown the door... age is not kind to footwork and forehand especially after a long absence... but maybe he can breakout if he plays feeders...

If FB did not keep playing to Jha's backhand, he would at least win a game. It is a puzzle that a forehand orientated player keeps playing a lot of backhand rallies.
I did not see him playing particularly much to KJs backhand but maybe you saw something I didn't. But in cases that he did, it likely has to do with the playing position and angles he wants to not allow Kanak to play easily, like getting forced to his own wide forehand as he prefers to play out of the backhand half step around and can't cover the wide forehand area especially with how early Kanak plays the ball.

Lol I would love to get into it with anyone who thinks he's going to be any sort of serious threat in the higher tier WTT tournament level. I guess people have a hard time letting go of a World Championship silver medal from over 10 years ago, or their favorite streamer...

Both WS finalists at WTT CS Yokohama 2026 advanced to R32 with some resistance. Kudos to Hursey and Goda for making them work for it.

I actually think Fang Bo overperformed expectations against Kanak moreso
Right, the score was actually ok-ish. In his exclusive interview, he even expected to lose a lot for the first half to a year.

("The gap is huge," Fang Bo frankly faced reality. Having been away from systematic training for many years, his physical condition was no longer what it was at twenty, and his playing style had inevitably lagged behind. He even anticipated that the first six months to a year after his comeback might see him fall into a losing streak. "I haven't played for five years, losing is normal. Others are improving, I'm regressing, and catching up is extremely difficult."

But this sober assessment did not shake his determination. According to Fang Bo's plan, this comeback is a long-term endeavor "lasting at least two to three years." He will not be impatient for quick results, nor will he be easily swayed by short-term wins and losses: "I can't just try it and feel it doesn't work and then quit. I'm prepared for a long time."

When discussing his goals, Fang Bo didn't make any grand pronouncements about winning championships, but rather appeared remarkably pragmatic: "My goal is to improve my ranking and strive to participate in all levels of WTT competitions.")
