How can the umpires let Alexis get away with all these blatantly bad tosses?
Yes, they have strange concepts of angles and/or degrees. Nothing new under the sun with the brothers.

Just watching the Bernadette vs. Charlotte match. Does/can the French player only serve one type of serve? Tactical serve 0.0. Still, something her coach and she herself should urgently work on.
Bernie only served one type of serve throughout the match as well (use pendulum for two points in a lost game, but used tomhawk exclusively otherwise). Someone has to win and someone has to lose, it isn't about having one serve.

Eh, I think you guys may be overreacting a little. Dubious angle aside, Alexis gained no unfair advantage here whatsoever.

"Dubious angle aside".... dubious angle is part of throwing the ball into the rwcket and getting more spin. Everyone is free to determine what advantage that gives but the aerve is illegal, TTR would have faulted it no questions asked.

Ok, and?

neither the type nor the amount of spin was in any way concealed from Gauzy. He did seem to misread the bounce, but that's on him.

I don't think the 30° guideline even applies in the ETTU-sanctioned events. The ITTF handbook makes no mention of such a thing to begin with.

Well the ball toss is high enough, the balls stays visible at all times, and I think the angle is about ten or fifteen degrees? Which I think is ok… I think it travels a long way “horizontally” because of the height of the toss…
Could the toss be more vertical, sure, but I think it’s actually fine as it is

You can compare it to the serve that was faulted in Miyu Nagasaki vs Sun Yingsha to see whether tossing across half the table at head height allows for such tosses.

Yes, and feel free to call it an educated opinion. I used to be an umpire. Decided to retire during COVID, they literally begged me not to.

That said, I wouldn't fault that serve in a million years.
Understood. You also advanced the argument that 30 degrees is not found in the ITTF handbook as if that is consistent with all the TTR that has gone on over the past few years. It's not something I can seriously argue with, nor can I argue with your expertise. Your perspective is appreciated.
