That's right. 30° had never been spelled out before TTR in 2024 (first link below), not in the original TTR in 2019 [second link below], and certainly not even in the Handbook for Match Officials, which has only stated "it must rise within a few degrees of vertical...". In the latest, 18th edition published in 2/2026, the reference to the old 45° rule has even been removed altogether. For reference, diagrams 10.3.1 and 10.3.2 (renamed to 10.3.1.1 and 10.3.1.2 from 15th edition and onwards) were added in 14th edition published in 12/2010.I don't think the 30° guideline even applies in the ETTU-sanctioned events. The ITTF handbook makes no mention of such a thing to begin with.
