It's not too restirctive, about one third of the top 100 play in TTBL despite the rules, the league is in a strong enough position to justify it. Like you said France got rid of it since the problems got too much, not bcs they wanted to, but out of necessity. Not having exclusivity for leagues with long seasons is a bit of a joke and makes the whole club scene even more arbitrary, imagine suggesting that to football clubs.The Bundesliga has too much restrictive laws, that one specially about not being allowed to play for 2 different leagues organised by ITTF associations. That one France has decided to withdraw, because of the Jura-Morez drama and the ever growing number of french pros playing outside of France to make a living in Saudi arabia, the MLTT, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Sweden,....
The thing is that having exposure to the whole EU and then having no restrictions on foreign play means that the top talent will suck up all the opportunities. If this is the direction most countries want to go in, great. We will see what it means for TT.
