Handle thickness of different blades

Hi guys, I'm currently using DHS PG7 with a flared handle. I feel the handle is too thin for me to grip comfortably and causes some trouble in changing between forehand and backhand. I tried a friend's Butterfly Primorac off- and the handle(FL) was a bit thicker and felt a lot more comfortable for me.

So, a couple of questions:

- Are all the butterfly flared handles the same thickness or are there big differences between blades?
- How do other manufacturers handles compare to DHS and butterfly handles.

I guess I just have to try as many blades at the club as I can, but would be nice to get some guidelines about how the handles from different manufacturers compare to each other. So if you've tried several different blades please give your opinions about the handles.

Hmm, Stiga have changed over the years then ! I have a Stiga Contra blade which dates from around 1979/80, the handle is very narrow. It doesn't bother me that much because I'm used to it, but someone used to a thicker grip would hate it.

In contrast I recently bought a Giant Dragon Super Balsa II, that has a big chunky handle more suited to a man's hand. These blades are not expensive, however you may find they are (deliberately) top-heavy with rubber on them whereas Stiga bats- if mine is anything to go by - are balanced and can feel as though you are holding nothing at all.

Hi there, first of all let me ask you if you are comftable with your blades composition (wood layers)? If yes then look for a blade similar to the one you are using right now.. possible that other brands have the same. Regarding grips, i wouldnt suggest rubber grips it lessens the ball feel fori it sometimes make your blade a lil bouncy so better go for something leather. Maybe anatomical handle would fit your hand.

Not all butterfly flared handles are the same. Ive got a Timo Boll Spirit and the handle is the same as the handle if the PG7/9 (I have a PG9 and the handles are the same.). But I also have a Timo Boll ALL+ and that handle is bigger and a little bit more square form. Stiga handles are bigger and I think the are all the same. Ive used different blades from Stiga, the Clipper wood, Allround NCT, Offensive NCT, Infinity VPS V all the same handle.

if you feel like your handle is small, use grip tape to make it thicker.

Ding Ding Ding !!!

That is exactly what I do to thicken the handle of every blade I use, plus it improves the feel (for me, maybe not everyone) AND it makes it COMFY... AND it makes it less likely to slip out of my hand on a fast loop, fly through the air and strike the Tourney Director upside hiz head, thus potentially injuring hiz brain.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your answers but I don't really like grip tape so I would like to keep getting comparisons between different brands and blade models.
I can use grip tape if I must but I would rather use it as a last resort and first try to find a blade that suits me as it is, "naked".

Info so far:

- Stiga handles are a bit bigger and all models have the same size handle
- Not all Butterfly handles are the same
- Timo Boll ALL+ is one of the Butterfly blades with a bigger handle

What I'm still looking for:

- More blades that have a bigger flared handle than DHS PG7/9
- More butterfly blades that share the same handle with Primorac OFF-
- More information about whether the big manufacturers use many different size flared handles in their blades (handle size differences within a brand)

So please correct or confirm the information collected so far and share your experiences about different handles. Still mainly looking for a flared handle.
Someone may think of this as being picky or something like that, but I find it really important that the blade feels right in my hand and goes into right place and stays there effortlessly.

Or best you can visit a local table tennis store At your place and try holding each blade available you can find to fit your standards

The reason I am trying to get some kind of guidelines from this forum is that there is no local table tennis store. Of course I'm trying every blade I can at the club but the range of blades used there isn't that wide. I know you're trying to help and I appreciate it, but in my situation it would be more helpful if someone could give answers to what I'm actually asking about.

So, where are all the EJ:s with dozens of blades? ;)

If I look at pictures the Timo Boll ALL+ looks like it has the same handle as the Primorac OFF- but Im not 100% sure. And if I compare these handles to the stiga handles then the stiga handles are les square formed, A little bit thinner in the middle and wider at the end of the handle. But all my stiga blades have a legend flared handle. I never had the master flared handle but if I compare then from pictures the master handle is smaller

here are all the different stiga handles
