I think the problem is more their potential lack of motivation rather than skill

they choose coaching because they can't find a job outside TT, but they don't enjoy teaching old ladies or amateurs. At least they'd rather coach promising kids. But thats not where the most $$ is to be made..
I agree. There is only so much a parent would pay for their kids to take lessons unless the kids are on the national team track.

Instead, if you live in Silicon Valley and work in the tech field, you will probably open your wallet out more to pay for coaching. Also some older adults can come to the club during the day to take lessons (while kids are stuck in school). So not to teach adults who are even older and retired, that is a mistaken.

I live in Prague, Czech Republic. I had the good fortune of having had a few coaching sessions with Jiri Vrablik (former WR 127 and ex bundesliga player). He charged me something around 40 euros an hour.

Depends on the coach really.

I pay my coach $40 Australian per hour here in Perth. That includes table hire, which is a bargain frankly, as he's really good.

Other more prominent coaches who have been around a while and coached at state or national level charge $80-$100 per hr.
Dropped you a PM. Thanks!

Back when I was really free and could train every weekend, it was about 550-600php (~10USD) to get 2hr training. Afterward, you can play at the place for an unlimited (unli) about of time (for the day, I think)

Said coaches are a varsity player and a coach who can create very good players (team got 2nd in the national kids' tournament)

David Zhuang, Head Professional Coach

David began playing table tennis competitively at age 11, becoming a professional player at 12. David has won over twenty titles including 6-time USA Table Tennis Champion and Pan American Games Gold Medalist. David is proud to have represented the United States in the Olympics three times. He was inducted into the USATT Hall of fame in 2003.

The coach's skill level is a major factor. David Zhuang was an amazing player (and a schoolmate of World Table Tennis Champion Jiang Jialiang). My coach was an ex-Chinese professional (maybe world top 500) until converting to a coach due to the competitiveness. We pay him by the month of lessons I'm pretty sure, I need to ask my parents.

Here's something I find interesting. There are probably half a dozen or so active table tennis coaches in the nearest city to me, all of which charge the same amount, currently £50 per hour.

If you walk into any tennis club, there will be a long list of coaches on the notice board with prices varying from free as long as they can use the session to work on their coaching badges, to really quite expensive at £80+ per hour.

Whilst more people play tennis than table tennis, there does seem to be a disproportionate amount of coaching available
