Why do people cut the rubbers so big? They leave like 1/4 inch of extra that is flopping in the wind. It adds extra weight and can catch on the table.
I have never met pros that cut the rubbers bigger.
I have never met pros that need to protect blades or rubbers.
at most they will just use edge tapes on certain parts that prevent rubbers from lifting during contact with the table, and that is about it

I have. I suspect most people wouldn't do it, but it is just a personal thing.

which pros did you meet that do it?
The main one that comes to mind no longer plays pro, but was a former national champion for a country in the Carribean. Some people in the US might know him. It was one of the things that surprised me about his setup when I first saw it.

I dont want to throw him under the buss or anyting -- it could be that he is giving a valuable service to the sport of table tennis, but my most important value in life is to be as truthful as possible, and after what people write on here I have decided to share my (limited) experience with him:

I jumped on the opportunity to try his limited free coaching offer by uploaing a video of myself playing, to see if I wanted to become a paying member in his community. However, on the day that we had an appointment to go on call, he messaged me that he didnt want to coach me because of something I had written on the internet. I said that I had no intention of giving offense and that I was sorry if something I said was offensive to him. Yet, he banned me from his online coaching community. I asked him to refer to the comment, but he didnt tell me. I spoke to one of his students at a tournament and this student said that he would message him about it ... never heard back from him and I am still banned.

This social media reality we live in, where you can create your own little bubble, or cult-like following, and just "swipe away" any form of critical thought, creates an environment where the concept of reality itself is eroding. Heming is situated in this, and has to compete with other actors in the game that is being played. Therefore, I am not faulting him.

Thankfully, there are remnants of old media, like this forum, on the internet ... where many people can write to many people instead of one person to many ... and where you dont need a cult-following in order to have your voice heard.

I have as well but I've never cared enough to ask why. I would guess to add some head heaviness on purpose or because it does change the feeling in a similar way that edge tape can.

This was an interesting find

This is an interesting story but without you being forthcoming about the comment he is referring to I find it hard to see if his reaction was fair or not. I am sure you have an idea what comment you may have made about someone that made them choose to decline a potential paying client.

To be fair, it is his right to decline and accept whoever he wants to, but my own thing is that your coaching expertise should supersede such things (but sometimes, maybe not)...

oh my goodness,
Business is business
of course he can reject your business, but that excuse seems very immature.
if it was very offensive comment, then maybe that is another issue

like the one above asking if heming teeth was involved in the cutting of the rubbers.
but other than him feeling offended, the rubber cut job was worse than noob level.
It sure wasn't fit for mass youtube purpose for sure.

if you are in the digital space to make your business, you need to handle 1 star reviews and have some balls to take up criticism, that is my take.
Else, don't be in this eco space as you will always have criticism and I sure don't feel zouless post was that bad. the teeth is maybe 10 times worth :p

again, I wish him well in his business.
someone told me this actually today - and not taking about heming, but a real pro who was top 10 before. The person said, the player could be great player and great coach, achieve top 10 in the world, gone to olympics etc, but that doesn't make them great business people. He suggested that business still need to be handled by business people and not all sports people are equip for it.

If I was Heming, I would ask zouless why he had "made those comment" and maybe turn and spin him from hater to lover. heming is supposedly a life coach, motivational speaker, he should have the skills to change zouless to become a fandom, am I right on this part?

re interesting find.

rubber could be reglued with more expansion and left as is - especially how neat it is (traced via blade)
or purposely cut with gaps, but the gaps are normally very little

heming gap is way more and to an extent, doesn't make sense.

lol
i didn't want to talk about it but for non TT players, what you say is what people will actually think.
but it was a rushed job.

he started the video saying how equipment is so important and if just a piece isn't glued properly, blah blah blah etc
then when I say the cut job, i did roll my eyes

Its like, I have gluing and equipment ocd, but I don't have cutting ocd.
all you need is maybe extra 10 seconds and the cut job can be neater
or unless, he is using a very blunt scissors - but having seen many of his rackets through his videos,,,, its a habit of his.

He said "something I had written on youtube and on the wiki". Again, I would have liked to have known.

I know I can be interpreted as harsh at times, this is my personality, but "love" and "hate" is pretty much the same thing biochemically, so branding someone a hater and another one a lover is useless in my mind.
