It wasn't all smooth sailing for Matsushima and Togami this time here either, with both barely edging out Gerrassimenko and OJS in the 5th game, respectively. While it's true there could be occasions where their men would carry their women, the record in XTWC suggests that their women would save the ass of their men more than the other way around.

Lol JPN in trouble after they decided it's not worth sending Matsushima

Tomo struggles a lot with Kirill's serves to his FH for some reason

It was a bit too close for comfort. Despite the 3-1 score, Kirill put Tomo under a lot of pressure.

Looks like Hongkong is overmatched by Taiwan...
Not just the men, but the Hong Kong women's team also loses to Taiwan. And Taiwan played without their ace player, CIC. Kudos to Yeh Yi-Tian for beating both Su Tsz Tung and Doo Hoi Kem. The Tiebans are not going to be happy about this.

With the Tiebans, you never know, they might dislike CIC enough to celebrate a Taiwan win without her.

We have heard the Tiebans complain about the incompetence of Coach Kishikawa in not using his depth behind the top 3 more often. Hopefully this match gives Tiebans encouraging evidence lol (he will be accused of not *preparing* them to play Kazakhstan lol).

Poor guy again. Who else but me to straighten you out?

Even Harimoto said in the interview that even he didn't know why Kishikawa didn't field Matsushima and he knew that lineup would end up going down to the wire. Whether or not he's holding back information, something is seriously wrong with the chain of command (that was already raised back at ATTC 2025), when their 2nd and 3rd singles players were replaced by two who had never played in those positions out of the blue here (that they could've experienced at WTTC 2026), going up against the 1st and 2nd [placed in 3rd here] singles players of the opposing team, especially the former that has defeated their current WR1.

(At the 2024 Asian Championships, Old Carton caught a cold. Since the seeding for the next edition would remain the same regardless of the outcome of the team ranking matches, Old Carton assumed he wouldn’t need to play and hadn’t prepared at all—only to end up losing two points while playing as the number 1st singles player against the HKG team.
Meanwhile, Matsu-Pig did not get fielded in this Asian Championships, and the Japanese men nearly suffered a disastrous upset against KAZ. In a post-match interview, Harimoto mentioned that he wasn’t entirely sure why Matsu-Pig didn’t play, suggesting that reporters should ask Matsu-Pig and the coach instead.)

And where exactly did your confidence come from?
Wow, are you still hung up on this? Sora didn't even play against Kazakhstan. Yes, as I previously stated, had the Olympics not dropped Men's Teams for LA2028 and if Tomo and Sora play to their potential, Japan would have had a very good shot at winning gold at the Olympics. As others have noted in that thread, that's a reasonable statement after Japan had just won the MT gold at the Asian Games beating China in the MT finals.
