We have heard the Tiebans complain about the incompetence of Coach Kishikawa in not using his depth behind the top 3 more often. Hopefully this match gives Tiebans encouraging evidence lol (he will be accused of not *preparing* them to play Kazakhstan lol).
Poor guy again. Who else but me to straighten you out?
Even Harimoto said in the interview that
even he didn't know why Kishikawa didn't field Matsushima and he knew that lineup would end up going down to the wire. Whether or not he's holding back information, something is seriously wrong with the chain of command (
that was already raised back at ATTC 2025), when their 2nd and 3rd singles players were replaced by two who had never played in those positions out of the blue here (that they could've experienced at WTTC 2026), going up against the 1st and 2nd [placed in 3rd here] singles players of the opposing team, especially the former that has defeated their current WR1.

(Post-Match Interview: Men’s Team Quarterfinals
— First of all, congratulations to the team on reaching the semifinals of the Asian Championships. Going into today’s match against Kazakhstan, did you anticipate that it would go all the way to a fifth deciding match?
“Looking at today’s lineup, I thought it was quite likely. If it had been the same squad as the one for the Asian Games, I wouldn’t have expected it to go to a fifth match. But given that Matsushima Sora wasn’t in the lineup today, I felt a fifth match was very possible.”
— Why didn’t Matsushima Sora play today?
“I’m not entirely sure (laughs)—you’d have to ask him or the head coach.”
— You faced Gerasimenko today; after losing the first game, you came back to win the next three. What adjustments did you make?
“I knew the team was trailing 1–2, and that if I lost, it would all be over.
He played very well in the first game, and I hadn’t quite found my rhythm yet. From the middle of the second game onward, I managed to stay calmer—especially during the serve and receive phases—and cut down on my unforced errors. I think I played at my usual level for the final three games.”
— How would you describe your teammate, Shinozuka Hiroto? Did his composed demeanor play a role in the team’s victory?
“He’s naturally quite calm; he doesn’t really show much emotion—he’s not the type to shout or get overly expressive.
That’s just his personality. I think it’s great that he was able to pull off the win in that fifth match today.”
— Following your men’s team gold at the Asian Games in Nagoya, what do you see as the real challenge for the team here in Tashkent as you pursue the Asian Championship title?
“I know that the rosters for this tournament differ from those for the Asian Games—this is true for China, South Korea, and other nations, including our own; everyone’s lineup is different.
But for me, the Asian Championships are just that—the Asian Championships. Regardless of who is competing, this is a major event. Along with the Asian Games, the Asian Cup, the World Cup, the Olympics, and the World Championships, these make up the six major tournaments.
I’m not concerned with how other countries—including Japan—have chosen to field their teams. My goal is to win the Asian Championships and become the Asian champion; my mindset is exactly the same as it was for the Asian Games.
I don’t yet know who I’ll be facing tomorrow, but my focus remains on securing my two points, performing well in both the singles and doubles events, and giving it my all—with the same intensity I brought to the Asian Games.”)

(At the 2024 Asian Championships, Old Carton caught a cold. Since the seeding for the next edition would remain the same regardless of the outcome of the team ranking matches, Old Carton assumed he wouldn’t need to play and hadn’t prepared at all—only to end up losing two points while playing as the number 1st singles player against the HKG team.
Meanwhile, Matsu-Pig did not get fielded in this Asian Championships, and the Japanese men nearly suffered a disastrous upset against KAZ. In a post-match interview, Harimoto mentioned that he wasn’t entirely sure why Matsu-Pig didn’t play, suggesting that reporters should ask Matsu-Pig and the coach instead.)
