China’s gut-wrenching loss to Japan in the Asian Championships women’s team final blew the lid off an open secret: a glaring vulnerability against defensive choppers.

After Honoka Hashimoto dismantled two Chinese stars, the spotlight shifted to rising ace Kuai Man—who has dropped six straight matches to choppers over the last ten months and had to be strategically sheltered in the final's lineup. As former national team defensive standout Hou Yingchao bluntly put it: "If you spend every day drilling high-speed topspin rallies, when is the backspin bill getting paid?"

With Japan poised to unleash a devastating two-chopper tandem, there will soon be nowhere left to hide. This defeat was an unforgiving reality check on a powerhouse that neglected its fundamentals.

HYZ/CY 2-3 Matsushima/Harimoto (8, -9, 8, -8, -9)
G5 31, 35 TO for CHN, 37, 67, 69, 99, 911
CY getting faulted for toss "below the table surface" while leading 6:5 in G4 could've changed the course of the match. She also dumped a lot of short pushes into the net on receive and in the short game and didn't adjust until G5.

Poor CY got bogged down by her growth spurt. Yet another proof that if you couldn't win in your junior years, then chances are you wouldn't win in your senior years, either.

Sora has a bit of Koki Niwa in him. Great little clip of a couple of points where he's like, yeah, we're done here. Love Miwa's reaction:

Togami - Forfeit in R128
Matsushima - Forfeit in R64 (Bye in R128)
Tanaka - R32 Feng Yi-Hsin 3-2 Tanaka (4, 11, -7, -4, 6)
Shinozuka (defending ATTC 2024 bronze medalist) - R32 Faraji 3-1 Shinozuka (10, 9, -10, 8)
Harimoto (defending ATTC 2024 gold medalist) - R16 Kim Minhyeok 2-3 Harimoto (9, -6, -7, 11, -5)

Matsushima, the supposedly "new boss", now gets to experience what Harimoto has been shouldering since 2018 when he was just 14. Not a good sign at 19 if you ask me, as Matsushima could be on a similar trajectory that Harimoto started going through also at 19 after WTT CS ESS 2022 and WTTC 2022.
