Phew, JPN was the ABC team here...

Doesn't even want to imagine what if they were the XYZ team.

Queen Hina does it! She has that Alpha Queen energy that her teammates look to.
Nah, she is too old. Needs to retire... ignore that she and Miwa had exactly the same splits vs DPR....

Good grit by Hina to take the decider but I feel it could have been 3-0 if the lineup was Miwa-Ito-Hashimoto
Ito isnt here and when did she play Kin?

The problem with Honoka is that you never know who is a defensive specialist. Japan picked a low risk team. Has Honoka played and PRK were 3000 vs defense, it would ruin team cohesion.

Yea, she opted out and let down a team that would have been strengthened by her (again). Watch how she dismantles Batra and I fancy her chances against Kim. Of course Kim is another level but Ito eats defensive styles for breakfast.

Odo's performance wasn't very inspiring considering she dropped so many matchpoints. Hashimoto has proven her strength against everyone but SYS and WMY.

And now Wang Yidi.. like I said, you never know a defensive specialist until the match is played. High risk vs a team that trains unseen.

Nah one match doesn't tell the full story. China has been fully focused on Hashimoto and her form wasn't the best that day either. Wang Yidi also admitted that she doesn't have the capability to beat Hashimoto the way SYS does. It was basically a case of everything including mental game aligning for Wang and Hashimoto somewhat falling apart. I still fancy her chances next time they meet.

I don't view Mima Ito opting out as a negative. All of the top Japanese women are strong. Opting out provides an opportunity for Miyu Nagasaki, who took WMY to a decider at the Euro Smash.

PRK has a history of producing world-class choppers (remember the hell they gave JPN at WTTC 2016 and Rio 2016). Hashimoto could've "break" it more than "make" it under that assumption.

As it stands, it came down to Odo (really shaky) to tilt the balance (2-2 for the 1st and 2nd players on both sides), that is, the 3rd player (see why Hirano was so important now?). PRK needs at least another player to serve as a closer. If they can't win the toss to be the ABC team, they are pretty much toast even if KKY manages 2 points.

JNT has this hierarchy/seniority "culture complex" that limits the team potential. They are very resistant to the notion of 奇兵 which requires thinking outside the box and breaking the norms like what HKG did versus GER at Tokyo 2020.

After 3-1 against Germany:
李静:「奇兵出奇蹟。」
Li Ching: "Surprise troop(lineup) leads to surprise event(miracle)!"
杜凱琹:「你遠比自己想像中厲害,心態很硬淨,不用再懷疑自己。」
Doo Hoi Kem: "You are far stronger than you think. You have a very solid mindset. Never doubt yourself again."
蘇慧音:「其實我都被結果嚇一跳,因為我之前與兩個對手交手是慘敗收場,結果能在第一場單打贏出已經感到不可思議。」
Soo Wai Yam: "I am actually surprised by the results. Since I never won against the two of them and it wasn't even close, I could not believe it when I won the first singles."

this is well established, and frustrating because they've done well most times they opted for surprise lineups

2008 Olympics vs HKG, upset 3rd seeds to enter bronze medal match
2012 Olympics, beat SGP to win Japan's first silver (and first ever TT Olympic medal)
2016 WTTC played Ito in first singles against GER and PRK which saved them from an out-of-form Fukuhara until finals, went back to Fukuhara for first singles against China and failed epicly.
2024 WTTC, Olympics and Asian Champs were all good performances against China with lineups that went against the pecking order.

And Ito kept telling TV Tokyo in all those WTTC promos how she loved WT...

To JTTA, on Miki House or Denso, the question has always been money. 盲拳打死老師父 will never happen for JNT in team events.

IND: What do we do now that PRK has failed despite the good draw, Massimo Costantini?
Massimo Costantini: We pray that JPN will 講武德 and bench Hashimoto
