Hayata is clearly not back her best but massive congratulations to Cheng I Ching.

Poor Miwa. A few mistakes at big moments cost her, she really should have won that. But again, the ability of Wang Manyu to adapt and overcome is just astonishing.

Performance of the day for me is Bruna Takahashi... WOW. 4-0 against Bernie is not easy. Bruna has seriously improved recently. Absolute fighter. I would love to see her keep doing well.

Shout out to Kanak Jha also, he's a seriously good player, he gave WCQ a good game.

Sora>Hiroto
Hugo is going to destroy him badly.
Why he didn't get the chance to play?
best 3 from japan right now, harimoto shunsuke and sora.
Hiroto is the forth.
I think Sora is just young and has only recently jumped up the rankings.

The way he destroyed Xiang Peng was crazy to watch. I hope he actually stays improving and doesn't suddenly fall of a cliff like the other Japanese prodigies.

I think the win over Batra showed that whether it is the seamless ball or something else, Bruna has taken a jump. Hopefully it will last.

Gauzy won a lot of points with both FH and BH, but Moregard won more keypoints with his FH.

Moregardh has one of the best forehands in the world, easily top 5, but it doesn't get mentioned enough.

Outside of China and Japan, Cheng has been the best female player of the last decade. We still need a little patience here. The losses to players like Hashimoto and Cheng and CNT are not portenders of anything yet. A slight drop in level in the short term at best but what it means, I think those claiming they know are the same people who never respected Hayata's pre-Olympics game in the first place.

Really great match between Truls and Gauzy with some of the best rallies of the entire event.

Gauzy may not have too many titles under his belt, but he's going to have a very long career highlight reel and he seems to be adding to it at an increasing pace lately.

That's partly due to his playing style. Like Xu Xin, Gauzy doesn't play fast pace game. In stead, they often patrol the middle or far distance from the table, i,e, sacrificing space to buy extra time. The extra time enable these two guys who possess magic touch to put up lots of highlight rallies.

However, speed is still the king for a fast racket sport like table tennis. Players who can hold their ground close to the table usually have up hands during plays. This is the main reason Gauzy's win rate is not in the elite level. Xu Xin fares better as his has excellent short games and he only backs off when he can not win a point in the first 3 shots.

Truls holds the table, Gauzy is French so he has to be creative or he will feel like a traitor.

I was so so happy that he got that Olympic Bronze in Paris in front of his home crowd.
What more can you really ask for as an athlete.

He's the ultimate "streets never forget" player, with an absolutely ridiculous highlight reel indeed.

Power of love?
It'll be magic illustration of this power if Hugo and his gf both stand at the trophy podium at the end.
Not entirely sold this is the reason but in the end, Hugo needs to repair himself from his Olympics debacle. Still needs some short game solutions and close to the table altenratives to his step back and launch. Bruna is young and growing so I trust jumps in results a bit more. She had always had the athleticism, she just needed to embrace the ability to play against pips and the spin game required.
