Intense match between HK and Japan, HK win 8-7 and advance to the semis. I think japan are eliminated now as their points difference is too low compared to romania

yep
it is actually a nice format to watch, when the teams are very evenly matched.
it is interesting, but having CNT A team vs the rest of B, C, D teams, the scale is just way too lopsided.

together with no WR (the WR points they give is a joke), there is just no purpose for players to squeeze another 1 week event inside a 52 week calendar that is already fulled over half way with international events.

So many players today choose not to go, so they can focus on various league matches that does more good for the player than the other way around.

maybe they should indeed make this a OG event, so there is proper money and WR point at play, otherwise, this format is maybe better suited for club / leagues, just like where the idea came from - Indian's UTT

USATT made post to say remarkable achievement, pivotal moment on top 8 finish for Team USA

a user then questioned - how can it be remarkable for winning only 1 match....

PR at its best and trying to hide the truth of what really happened in a 16 team fun tournament.

Why did Korea go with SUH the chopper? Is DOO known to perform weak against choppers? Cause she seems quite capable today. Kim Nayeong would have been a much better choice
In fairness, prior to today:

Anyone remember when Adina was supposed to be the future of European's women's TT?
Oh, it's been 8 years now. WJTTC 2016, the legendary edition in which CHN took home only 1 out of 7 titles. Many of the medalists have disappeared, but most of the finalists have become top players. Miwa's brother is already a veteran at just 21 years old.

Because they didn't read my post on DHK's new setup.

Among those choppers that are over 30 (Han Ying, Li Jie, Ishikgai, Suh Hyo Won and Wu Yang), Suh Hyo Won is the only one she has played in her senior days. Her record is better against those around her age, she is actually 4W1L against Bergstrom, 2W3L against Sato (all matches in their U21 days), and 0W2L against Hashimoto (all matches in their U21 days).

I remember the face of the CNT squad boss
was very pissed.
I arranged for a tour for the CNT contingent the day after the tournament, but the the team assistant told me they need to cancel.

LGZ lost his head coach job due to the dismay display of the boys team soon afterwards.

TTR to be fully implemented at WTTC 2025.

Table Tennis Review System Returns with a Successful Trial at ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2024
https://www.ittf.com/2024/12/08/tab...sful-trial-at-ittf-mixed-team-world-cup-2024/
Key Features of the TTR System

Under the TTR framework, players or pairs are allocated two review opportunities per match. Successful challenges or inconclusive reviews preserve their remaining opportunities, while unsuccessful challenges result in the loss of one. TTR Match Officials use multiple camera angles and replay speeds to determine whether to uphold or overturn the original umpire’s decision. Importantly, the initial ruling stands unless clear evidence supports a reversal.

The following scenarios are eligible for review:

Edge Ball
Service Net
Service Toss Height (minimum 16 cm)
Service Toss Angle (maximum 30 degrees)
Service Ball Hiding
Service Toss Below the Playing Surface
Service Toss Inside the Playing Surface
Obstruction

During the final day of the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2024, six TTR challenges were initiated –one for edge ball, one for service ball hiding, one for obstruction, and three for service net– with each case reviewed seamlessly.

Beyond Officiating

...

The successful trial in Chengdu sets the stage for a broader rollout. Following endorsement by the ITTF Executive Board during the ITTF Summit 2024, the TTR system is slated for full implementation at the ITTF World Championships Finals 2025.

First introduced at the ITTF World Tour Grand Finals in 2019, TTR’s progression was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Its reintroduction and development represent a significant milestone in ITTF’s mission to modernise the sport while upholding the highest standards of fairness and integrity.

This is great. I have a couple of questions about TTR system:

1. How do players ask an umpire to review. Is there hand signals similar to other sports to notify an umpire they want to review or do they verbally tell the umpire they want to review?

2. When players review do they have to state the reason to the umpire on why they are reviewing?

greek federation also does that. They present 7th and 12th place in small tournaments as a success. Im all in for positive marketing but this is plain ridiculous :D

Congratulations to Team Hong Kong for winning the bronze (and had a very good shot at getting into the gold medal match). Great team spirit!
NG/Yiu rallied well and finished the points often.
DHK played with confidence and seems to be more mature as indicated by her hair
and new blade; but not as mature as Jang Woojin.

HKG had the loudness cheerleading squad and it helped 😊
