Continuing the scheduling theme, Kanak shouldn't complain too much, some players are going to play two matches in one day tomorrow - play the morning schedule and if they win, return to play the evening schedule, sometimes against players who played the previous day and have rested if they don't have doubles...

Anyone have video of the match he beat Sora in to qualify? I am still trying to understand how this happened lol...

It was only best of 5. Sora had a lot of pressure.
He came back from 0-2 down but Kenji had a good start in G5

You mean Kallberg one of the best players in the world who helped Sweden get a silver and has wins over the likes of Wang Chuqin? Or some other Kallberg?

While many players have a preference for one or the other and league matches are not WTT/ITTF matches, the idea they are meaningless is ludicrous if you actually speak to the players and know their pressures to perform.
In case you aren't aware, Togami decided to play the TTBL because of Uda, who could perform well on the world stage and he wanted to become one himself. As of 1/2025, he is not there yet.

And regarding Duda, see what a recent German article says about him (citing how he beat F. Lebrun, LJK, LGY and holding match point against WCQ in recent months), also with comments from Ovtcharov, Fraziska and Rosskopf. It comes down to international results, especially those against the cream of the crop in the majors.

https://rallys.online/topic/alljapan/20250124zennihonms5togami/

How do you feel about the big challenge of going to Germany?

Going to Germany was a big challenge, but I was determined to stay focused and fight to my full potential.

I also wanted to absorb the strengths of the other players and my own weaknesses in Germany, bring that back to Japan, and become a player who can compete on the world stage.

The fact that I wasn't able to win at the Zennihon means that I feel I was lacking in that area.

https://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/tabletennis/news/2023/05/028319.html

Q. Did you talk to Uda about going to Germany?

Yes. At that time, I felt that I had already learned everything I could in Japan, and Uda also made it to the top eight in the Singapore Smash last year [semifinal actually, losing to FZD 2-4], so I consulted him about the upcoming season. He is a player who can really be active on the world stage, so I told him that he might have more to learn in the Bundesliga than playing in the T.League.

Q. Do you consult with Uda about life, or table tennis?

I'm surprised that I do when it comes to making a decision that is a turning point. We are rivals who are walking the same path, so when I really want a consultation, I usually consult with him.

Die Weltmacht China gerät ins Wanken (The global power China is faltering)
https://www.faz.net/aktuell/sport/m...tmacht-china-geraet-ins-wanken-110475997.html

But since the retirement of the great players Ma Long and Fan Zhendong from international table tennis, it's precisely these two who have become crucial. "I've received information from China that the Chinese are extremely nervous," reports national coach Jörg Roßkopf. "They have young players who are very strong but have little experience."

The new generation is playing with significantly more diversity

...

"If you think back to the past, around 2012, the Chinese were incredibly strong and virtually unbeatable in two parallel generations, with around six players, all of whom are legends," reflects the successful German veteran Dimitrij Ovtcharov.

...

The level of performance has increased, and the world's elite is younger than ever. Currently, no player in the top ten is older than 30. "Worldwide, for example in Taiwan, France, or Sweden, players are receiving even more support," says Ovtcharov. Tournament outcomes are therefore significantly more difficult to predict. Benedikt Duda is the best proof of this. Now ranked 13th, the 31-year-old German has beaten Lebrun, as well as the Chinese Liang Jingkun and Lin Gaoyuan, in recent months and brought Wang to the brink of defeat at the World Cup.

"This makes table tennis much more attractive."

The young guns are inspiring not only with their successes, but also with their play. Gone are the days of uniform topspin duels from mid-distance. Whether it's the high-speed table tennis of the Japanese Tomokazu Harimoto, Calderano's two-handed backhands, or Möregårdh's unexpectedly tricky shots: the new generation is playing with a much more diverse approach. "Lin Shidong now plays more like a European, not so schematically, Wang Chuqin is very brutal, Félix Lebrun very close to the table, Alexis Lebrun stands four meters behind the table," analyzes the German number one at this World Championship, Patrick Franziska. "Truls Möregårdh plays gibberish anyway. Harimoto is also unique." The German is certain: "This makes table tennis much more attractive."

The starting position for this World Championship is now all the more exciting. "Everyone knows that anything is possible," says Roßkopf. "There are many very good players, but not one outstanding player." Due to the competitiveness, the German players are no longer considered China's first challengers and are now merely part of a larger chasing group.

For Roßkopf, the new situation is not a disadvantage. "This just gives us more motivation to become number one in Europe again." The national coach cautiously sets out his goals for this World Championship, with the five German players initially expected to advance past the first round. "Our dream is to win a medal," says sports director Richard Prause. Franziska, who could face Wang in the quarterfinals, is toying with the idea of another slip-up from the Chinese player at a major tournament. "If I play against him, I hope he gets his flutter back."

Despite their setbacks, the two Chinese players, Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong, will enter the race as favorites. "They will all improve because they brought their players to the training camp directly after the World Cup," claims Roßkopf. But the World Championship could become another showcase for the crumbling Chinese dominance – and demonstrate how attractive men's table tennis has become. How much the Germans can contribute to this remains to be seen.

WCQ's racket looks horrible. I would be screaming left and right if that happened to me. That is completely unacceptable.
This isn’t the first time it’s happened. Lucky that he can still play.

Wang Chuqin complained in a Migu TV interview that something bad always happened to him in major international events including the Paris Olympics, where his racket was accidentally broken by photographers rushing to capture the moment after Wang and Sun won Olympic gold.

According to an ITTF statement, a special meeting was held between the ITTF and the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA) Monday night, attended by CTTA president Wang Liqin, CTTA secretary general He Xiao, the ITTF competition team, the referee team, and the chief of the racket inspection team.

Wang Liqin protested and appealed regarding the damaged racket, requested surveillance footage to be reviewed, and demanded an investigation into the cause of the incident. To prevent similar incidents, CTTA proposed three suggestions, to which the ITTF responded individually.

- CTTA hopes that following this incident, staff will accompany the racket inspection process throughout to ensure no unauthorized personnel can handle the inspected rackets.
The ITTF stated that according to the event rules, each team is allowed to have one staff member accompany the process.

- CTTA wishes for larger and safer racket inspection containers for future events.
The ITTF mentioned that after the incident, they promptly requested the organizing committee to provide A4-sized envelopes and instructed all referees to handle rackets carefully during their work. They also emphasized that the operation procedures of the racket inspection team were correct.

- CTTA requested the entire racket inspection process to be recorded.
The ITTF stated that recording the entire process is temporarily unfeasible at this championships. They will gradually implement this in future matches.

I read a bit about this

this is actually ridiculous and the umpire even said, it is fine and he should play on with it.
the rubber isn't even flat, the umpire should be striped of all his umpiring certificate for allowing a non flat rubber to proceed in a match.
and they need to investigate on how did the rubber get damaged

Hugo suggest maybe it was from putting or removing from the envelope - of which this procedure has gone on for 1000s of times with no rubbers being affected or lifted.

this is correct, but then after the envelope is sealed and then opened again at the match table, the staff would walk away. So need footage of the handling in between. You can't have a staff to baby sit the "secured" envelope for 2 hours.... or maybe CTTA will do that to ensure no more nonense occurs.

- CTTA wishes for larger and safer racket inspection containers for future events.
The ITTF mentioned that after the incident, they promptly requested the organizing committee to provide A4-sized envelopes and instructed all referees to handle rackets carefully during their work. They also emphasized that the operation procedures of the racket inspection team were correct.
it has always been A4-sized envelope....
what size did they use? haha

- CTTA requested the entire racket inspection process to be recorded.

GO pro.... or just have portable camera.
someone need to do shopping on ali for ITTF

So, another incident yesterday in the shuttle

FANS gotten on, and when a team delegation informed the driver to check credentials of the "fans". the driver didn't act or do anything about it and allowed it.

So they made a joke
The shuttle today had the hot sun shining in.
The romantic couple from Brazil showing their love for each other
and fans managed to smuggle themselves in an official shuttle.

I am sure the list of complaint is getting longer, but it seems like only CTTA can get special meetings, while the rest are told to email in complaints and they will get response.... maybe soon.

Talking about having team coach at the right venue with the players...On table 2 live stream right now, it was Japanese XD, followed by Japanese WD and now Japanese woman's single (Min Hirano). Maybe WTT heard our complaint on TTD forum and scheduled all the Japanese players on table 2 right now to make it easier on the players and the coaches. lol :)
Nah, JNT gets an unfair edge over even CNT and Tony's Table Tennis is silent about it.

Table 2 has been bought out by TV Tokyo since WTTC 2014 so that's understandable. The youtube live is from the same feed that gets broadcast in Japan.
