Heres a video of John Hilton straight after his European Mens Singles win in 1980. As many of you may know he was of course ranked at No1 in europe, No5 in the World but only No4 at Manchester YMCA where they had finally mastered his Long Pimple twiddling style......but as you can see from the video below Gabor Gergley, European Champion in the previous year 1979, was clueless still!!!!

Thanks for the post Martin.. Its crazy to think he was number 4 in Manchester and ranked no.1 in Europe! The game back then was so much different from todays game. But back then I can see how the rallies can be more spectacular for.the audience.

Watching these old school clips makes you realise how much the sport has progressed.
