Someone needs to kidnap Hirano's dog and threaten to kill it if she doesn't win the gold medal. Seriously. She doesn't know how to move from success to success without stress.

Togami manages to defend his 2-time Zennihon Champion status. Was going to say I don't recognize those 2 titles if he were to lose.

zeio,
why haven't you created a separate thread for the 2024 All Japan tournament? It is hard to follow the event with all the posts back to 2019.
It's by design.

Zennihon Takkyu 2024 is tied in with the Race to Paris and the last leg of the race. I also had been using the same thread for the dozen legs of the selection race (by renaming it) over at MyTT.

Although Hayata's game is superior to Akae's, to be fair to Akae, they are T-League teammates and I've even seen them play doubles together so Hayata surely knows her game. Akae has improved significantly from the last time I saw her play (on a T-League highlight video) and just making the SF at the All Japan is an achievement in itself.

[Someone needs to kidnap Hirano's dog and threaten to kill it if she doesn't win the gold medal. Seriously. She doesn't know how to move from success to success without stress.]
I knew it !! Hirano’s constant blowing of her nose, even during tournaments was a allergic reaction to her pet’s danders. But I thought Hirano has a cat instead called Kitty something, no? 🧐

IMHO, in this particular tournament, once she got thru to the quarters, and with Ito’s demise, she has gotten enough points to secure an Olympics spot. Mission accomplished, nothing else mattered, at least this time.
I have seen this in another internal match where she has to play Ito, and she went all out, full throttle and took the match 4-0. It was important to keep ahead of Ito, just that. The next match she lost to a ‘who’s she?!’ It’s like ok to let her guard down now, job’s done.

History is but prologue, and people evolve, in different ways too. Hirano hasn’t reach the end of her journey yet, and knows it, and wants to.
Ito has reached heights that many can only dream of, even with her style/equipment/physique limitations. It’s good enough even if she retires now.
Regardless of what comes ahead, Hirano & Ito have left indelible markers carved in stone in their evolution, and if a new generation takes over, that’s just the nature of things.
I appreciate the ten yrs that I watched them mature and succeed, and shall have no qualms even if they’re eventually over-taken, as they should be.

Hayata vs Harimoto
59, 119, 6 in a row and last 2 going to Hayata on her service
34?, 74, 75, 85, 86, 96, 98, 108, 109, 119
30, 32, 62, 64, 84, 85, 95, 96, 116
10, 22, 32 TO for Harimoto, 62, 63, 73, 75, 85, 87, 117

Even more boring F. Harimoto's dad not calling TO in G1 is really puzzling here. What was he waiting for, G7?

How did Harimoto reach here?

Hayata drops only a single game to Shibata Saki on her way to the 2024 all Japan crown.

From 2020 to 2024, Hayata has only lost to Ito at all Japan. Once in 2021 semifinals and again at the 2022 finals.

I don't know how Hayata is holding off Miwa who's throwing the kitchen sink at her. But Hayata has done it for 2 games now. Can she keep this up? A real clash of the titans.
My humble opinion is that the gap between Harimoro and Hayata was 2 years. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't closed next year either but if it was that was more realistic than this year.

Congrats to Hayata.

If Hayata didn't mess with her game after WTT CS Frankfurt 2023, Harimoto wouldn't have won at Zennoh Cup Osaka.

Hayata is to Harimoto as Ito is to Hayata. Winning the Zennihon Takkyu 3 months from now with this level?

Conspiracy theorist mode: the cunning Hirano must have held back.

As for Harimoto, once again, she will have to get past Kihara and Nagasaki first, on top of Hayata. She is up against the strongest generation here [comments by Hirano, Hayata, Nagasaki].

5-time Zennihon Takkyu Champion Ishikawa sounds like a bad joke now.

zeio: Ok, google. Find me an image that explains why yours truly differentiates most decorated from greatest of all time. "Dominating" in a weak era =/= "Prevailing" in a strong era.
