Yes, I think both of you, turbozed andmocker88 got duds or a bad batch.
I also got some of the "second batch" and while they are still as tacky as a H3 Neo they are not like the very first edition. I remember clearly the words " different packaging - same rubber"
NOT TRUE.
Now it looks like they have gotten even worse...................SHAME ! ( and also a completely idiotic way of doing business)

Interesting. N80 sounds like a really good performance rubber. But its double the price of Rxton 5...so not sure if its worth it.
Not worth it. This rubber reminded me of the long-forgotten Davey Inspirit. There is no control. I tried it on different blades - soft and hard, fast and slow as well as with a booster and without a booster. It happens that some rubber does not play on one board, and it does on another, but this rubber did not play anywhere and with anything.

It might be a very personal thing as we are all different. I find that the harder rubbers give me better control. If one has control then spin and speed can be achieved as well. I know that many players see it the other way, they go with softer rubbers and use the bounce to make speed and the ball digging in the rubber to create the spin...............or something like that 😁

Second session training with Rxton 5 and it feels a lot better than before. Looks like it needed a bit of breaking in for it to be playable. Getting more spin and speed with it despite the lack of tackiness. Still pretty slow unless I hit hard enough for the ball to penetrate the rubber and hear the nice crack of the blade but I'm able to achieve this way more often. The on/off nature of this is somewhat helpful feedback for developing a strong FH drive/smash.

I helped the breaking in process along by bouncing a ball on it for a while and just whacking balls fed with my offhand. Hoping more time with it unlocks a bit more potential but I'm already liking it as it is.

With booster its pretty good and pretty standard.

I put a pretty thin layer of baby oil on it. Didn't curl at all. Maybe I should've gone for two layers and for a slight curl. The sponge on this thing is pretty dense.

I'll probably pick up a Mercury 2 in hard sponge and see which dirt cheap rubber I like the most and will use for a while. Boosted Mercury 2 in medium sponge is so bouncy that I think it'd actually be pretty damn good on the BH. I searched last night for info about boosted Mercury 2 and noticed there a handful of experienced players that use it on their BH.

Where can you find Mercury 2 in hard? Most places I saw only sell soft and medium.

I was just looking for them a little while ago but nobody seems to be carrying it anymore on Aliexpress. I could've swore seeing them for sale late last year.

I'll try messaging some sellers on Shopee.

No sorry. My distributor tricked me and sent medium instead. Perhaps the hard ones is out at Yinhe factory as well then...?

Dang that sucks. I guess it makes sense that buyers for Mercury 2 are value minded beginners looking for something easy to use. But the boosted medium is so nice, I was getting really curious about the potential of the boosted hard sponge.

On a more positive note, I'm really starting to like Rxton V more and more now that I've broken it in with about 3 hours of training. If this is how the low-tacky bad batch of Rxton V plays, I want to get my hands on the superior first batch. If it's noticeably spinnier and higher quality than the one I got, then I can see why lodro likes it so much.

Edit: After doing some detectivework, I've determined that I received the older package of Rxton V. So I have less buyer's remorse now but a bit disappointed that this is as tacky as the rubber gets. I'll probably buy another sheet and use Seamoon on it this time instead of baby oil since 1 layer probably wasn't enough for this sponge. Will put it on my Fextra 7 when I test out the blade.

Yep. I don't like getting fooled. If I get it later sometime, I'll let you know :)

You might like Rxton III. I found it a bit softer than Rxton V, but with at least as good spin capabilities. :)

The older , or first batch was the same kind of stickyness as a commercial H3 .
The second batch ..............not so much.
I have never gotten anybody to give me a decent explanation of the difference between
stickyness and tackiness but my own personal (and therefore completely subjective) definitions
are : Stickiness is how long a ball will stick to the rubber before falling off when a bat is lightly pressed down onto the ball and lifted up.
Tackiness is how well a rubber can grip the ball and impart spin.
I am waffling and rambling on about this because I found that while the second batch was indeed less sticky, the tackiness or grip was pretty much the same

So far we know about two different packages but how many " batches" per package ????
We do not know how many hundreds or thousands are made per batch. What we do know though is, the manufacturer has confirmed that there are inconsistencies between different batches.
This might explain why we both have rubbers with the same packaging but different qualities.
It is still a great versatile and long lasting rubber though .
Here is a picture how Loki wanks on about the (what I call) stickiness . I have tried it and the bloody phone had to be finally ripped off the rubber . Balls don't last that long. 😁

To me rxton 5 has just the right amount of tack.

It has some reaction to booster, but not a tremendous reaction to booster. But in any case, with some booster, its just a all around good reliable fh rubber. But i dont find it particularly memorable, but very standard.

................do be able to have a rubber that is ( as you say) a good reliable FH rubber is
crucial for a consistent game. The persistent search for the "ultimate rubber" or as you call it "a memorable rubber" is simply the persuit of a fantasy or a dream. That is the only place where it exist. There is simply no rubber that will be able to do it all for you. :)

@lodro @TensorBackhand

Just wanted to drop a quick Rxton 5 update in case you guys were interested. I ended up reboosting the Rxton 5 again, since I suspected I went too conservative the first time. I ended up applying two more thin layers of baby oil and caused the rubber to dome ever-so-slightly. This sponge seems to soak up oil pretty fast since it dried to the touch within minutes.

Had one training session with the reboosted Rxton 5 and this thing really came alive. It feels less bouncy and more controlled than the boosted Mercury 2 (granted I might've boosted that one too much), but there's been a significant increase in speed and spin from before. It was so noticeable that within the first minute of hitting with it, my coach even asked me if I had bought a new rubber.

I'm guessing that lodro's one layer of Seamoon must be equivalent to a few layers of baby oil, because just one layer originally made the rubber feel really dead. This could also be because I was using it on a very light blade (my Nittaku Acoustic only weighs 78g) so there just wasn't enough impact to compress the topsheet and sponge unless I really whacked the ball. Right now, the ball bites into the rubber better, and because I can feel that happening, I'm getting both more speed and more control (which I thought shouldn't go together).

Rxton 5 is pretty damn good for a $8 rubber. Might even beat out Mercury 2 for value which I didn't think was possible.

To me, it feels really yucky when lodro is trying to give "honest" advice.
It sounds like a politician explaining "I have never seen said pornstar in my life".
I know he has seen all of them and has sticky and tacky residue all over them.
Sure he likes older batches since they were more sticky and tacky.

Nah, I just kid lodro, he is really awesome.

Somebody wants to buy my T3. Should i sell it to him?

Its a very fast and bouncy rubber, faster than some esn rubbers. But the surface is a bit lacking in grip, it sometimes can be harder to loop.
yes of course you should sell it.
If later you should get "sellers remorse" you can always get another one
