Ma Long's incredible run started back on the 28th August 2011 where the World number 1 won the Men's Singles title at the Harmony China Open. Since this win, no player has defeated Ma Long!
To follow this run, Ma Long won the Austria title where he defeated compatriot Zhang Jike in a seven set thriller. Ma Long then defeated Wang Hao in the ITTF Swedish Open 2011 final where he didn't even drop a set!
Ma and the Chinese National team flew to England for the ITTF Pro Tour Grand finals where Ma Long once again defeated Zhang Jike in the Men's Singles final. After the Christmas break, Ma Long and co ventured out to Hungary where Ma defeated Korea's Joo Se Hyuk to claim the Men's Singles title.
Ma Long has won 5 consecutive ITTF Pro Tour events to date since 28th August 2011 which include:
1) Harmony China Open 2011
2) Austrian Open 2011
3) Swedish Open 2011
4) ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals 2011
5) Hungarian Open World Tour 2012
The only other player to win 5 consecutive competition wins is China's Wang Liqin. Wang Liqin won the Denmark, ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals, England Open 2000 and China and Swedish Open in 2001.
Will Ma Long break the record and stand alone amongst the best?
