Multicolor rubbers fading

It seems the new rubbers coming out only offer the basic red and black now. The manufacturers are not making those crazy multi colored rubbers anymore.

I knew when new colors were approved it would be a fad. With multiple thickness and colors each rubber would have an explosion of variants. So manufacturers would have to carry more dyes, inventory and part numbers. Then add in retailers that would have to do the same thing. So when a rubber gets old and obsolete all unsold inventory would be very difficult to get rid of. I' guessing in a few years it will just fade away and we will be back at the original red/black world.

I don't have the same opinion, there are some rubbers that target the beginners in TT which prefer these colors, so it is difficult now days to find a "colored" rubber for advanced players and this will be also for the future, but some "basic" rubbers will produced in colors other than black/red.
But that will be up to the manufacturers willing to carry the extra complexity. Beginner rubbers are generally less expensive therefore lower profit margins. So they will be even less inclined to carry them.

the original red/black world.
If this is original to you then you must be young-ish. ;)
Rubbers in other colours than red and black were totally normal until 1984.
It seems there aren´t any top of the range or hybrid rubbers in different colours, but there are quite a few new (basic level?) rubbers on the LARC available in 3 to 6 colours.

When I was playing in the early 1980s I had Yasaka Tornado on both sides of my bat - it was bright orange. There were a LOT of green rubbers around too before the rules changed.

And also ittf fees are going through the roof. You have to pay to test the colors and then pay to approve them.

And then there's play...none of them seem as spinny as even the red, much less the black.

its not a clever business model to have more variations.

and that is why some companies choose not to go multicolor and some only went with specific color on certain models only.

the entry level - hobby bats options have decent colors and I think that market segment will have a bigger wow factor on multicolor.

the pro side, you will use the rubber for the spin and performance, not for the color - expect certain players that wants to make it their personal symbol - ie, pink = bernie, or green = Aruna
