I played quite a few players last night, lost to one. But he felt pretty damn good so there's no harm in that. Played from 4-9ish.

Today I met with Carl at spin for about an 2 hours. We hit for a while and it was quite fun, met Michael Landers and we did get pictures, I believe he'll upload them here later.

Proof that it happened.

The good news is that the vampire remedy that Der_Echte prescribed to me has worked pretty decently and, although on Saturday my eye felt like it was being stabbed with a silver knife with garlic juice and vitamin C, now it feels enough better that I could see the ball some of the time while I hit.

Shuki and I had fun hitting. I chickened out on matches because I didn't want to get hurt too bad. But we had some fun playing. I think Shuki and I are probably pretty similar level. We each have some strengths and some weaknesses in our games.

In the first photo, me Shuki and Michael Landers. In the second photo, Shuki with MLanders and Alex P. Alex is a friend who is about 1900-2000. I used to play with him
and train with him a lot. I've been too busy to hit with him for a while. But he is a lot of fun to train with. Today Alex was training with MLanders.

I mean, really, who actually quotes themself? Well, I guess I do!

Shuki had this idea that everybody wanted to see my beautiful face better. I know, so considerate. So he fixed up this image so it was easier to see. Shuki's got skillz!

I know, I tried to convince Shuki that people might want to see him and Landers too. But he insisted that people wanted to see the short guy with the Nexy jersey.

I wouldn't agree that we're the same level, it may have felt close to even but I'm sure if Carl was able to get back in form he'd outshine me in a heartbeat.

It really was a lot of fun playing with him and what impressed me most about his gameplay was how consistent he was with his hooked shots. The loops he gave were more of a corkspin than a traditional loop.

Even with the sacrificed topspin for all that extra side, he was able to hit the table very consistently. If he would serve short to my forehand, I learned quickly that no matter how wide I would push off the side of the table he would be ready to sidespin the living daylight out of that ball.

What also was a nice change of pace was his ability to change the pace, it was similar to what I do to most players. Rather than move a player side to side he was very proficient at moving me in and out.

He had me playing a fishing game rather than what I usually do which is much closer to the table and I had to tell myself to stay close before a point started to maintain control.

Overall extremely fun to play another player that's more about control than speed.

Great fun, hope to play you again someday soon.

We will do it again. And I won't be feigning an eye injury.

Today the ophthalmologist told my that my eye has mostly healed and I just need to be careful and keep it lubricated for the next few months to ensure it does not get re-damaged.

So, Der_Echte's vampire remedy really did the trick.

Btw: my hook loop has to have good topspin on it despite the hook or it would go to the side rather than up when someone misjudged the spin. I see a lot of balls go long and high from opponents. Hehe.

"I like to put heavy topspin on the ball!"

Thanks for giving me credit, but none of the stuff I mentioned really heals your scratched eye. All those things were very good measures to take to fight off infection. None of that stuff had any building blocks or catalysts for tissue repair. I believe it is REAL IMPORTANT to avoid antibiotics if at all possible as they kill off your "good" bacteria along with teh "bad"...

Since your immune system response is very much is determined by what good bacteria you have in your gut linings and the stuff they send out, I think it is real important to preserve it... and IF one takes some antibiotics, they space in between doses billions of good bacteria, like a serving or two of Kimchi, a cup or two of home made no sugar added Kefir, or if you gotta, a prebiotic supplement... you do that in between your doses of antibiotic so your microbiome doesn't get Duke-Nuke-Em'd.

But surely if you could turn that side into more top you have them go even higher and even longer!

I think it more so goes high and long because with as much sidespin as you have, people assume you wouldn't have as much top with it as you do. Also since it's a corkspin type of sidespin.

The ball wants to go more toward my forehand and if I hit it on the right side of the ball as its coming in, it acts as topspin, but when hitting the left side of the ball as it comes in, I could treat it closer to no spin

@ Shuki: I thought about the corkscrew thing. A corkscrew ball flies straight and kicks to the side on the bounce. It wouldn't curve in the air. So I don't think I'm doing that. Also a corkscrew, if someone tried to counter the sidespin by going inside out, it the corkscrew ball would pull down as if it was backspin because, in a corkscrew ball, the inside of the ball is backspin and the outside of the ball is topspin which is why a true corkscrew serve is an awesome tool. Because it bounces like topspin but if you counter it as if it is side top, the ball goes straight down. Mike Landers has an awesome corkscrew serve and me returning his helped me figure that conundrum out.

However, ideally a player can make pure top, hook and fade spin when they loop. But I like to hook the ball. It just feels so natural to me. And the hook was why my around the net shot landed right on the corner in the white paint of the end line and the side line. [emoji2] And that definitely makes me happy when I do it.

@Der_Echte: just a question: how could antibiotic eye drops affect the flora in my stomach? Hehe. I guess, next time I will drink the eye drops.

But the ophthalmologist told me that there doesn't seem to be any infection and the eye has healed but will be subject to re-injury for the next 3-4 months and that I need to take regular old lubricating eye drops several times a day and a lubricating eye ointment at night.

Hopefully those won't mess with the flora in my stomach.

BTW: I do take probiotic supplements and eat yogurt with real, live cultures, on a regular basis. It is always good to keep that healthy. Only problem is, the more of those live cultures I have in my gut, the harder it is for me to keep from losing weight. So it means I have to eat a lot. LOL.

Much easier to loop an incoming heavy topspin ball using Hook... which is topspin and corkscrew... and easy to counterloop in incoming corkscrew hookshot with a straight topspin. Ball will bite less. My hookshot has a bit of side mixed in it to break in the air too.

One of my favorite shots when someone heavy topspins a ball right at my pocket is to lean left, loosen my wrist and take the ball behind and to the side of ball... which results in a mean hookshot slow ball tails away like crazy drops short side of table and kicks out. You gotta have a loose wrist and slow it down to get that angle, ball breaks in air and kick out and away for a winner opponent is stunned looking at it. You can also hit on at opponent, then hookshot their attack away from them - that can be a winner and it will give you a great chance on the next ball.

Could it be a mix of corkspin and side? There was definitely a lot more kick off my paddle when hitting the right side of the ball during your loops. maybe my form is just incorrect when trying to block from that side.

Think about corkscrew as the way a football is thrown. A good spiral on a football makes it fly straight. Corkscrew would be that spin and with that spin the ball would not hook. It would fly straight and you would only see the sidespin after the bounce and the bounce would be a surprising kick to the side. The reason, on that shot, that the kick to the side would be surprising is, the ball would have been flying straight. Also, a corkscrew spin would not cause the ball to arc down towards the table. So if it was corkscrew, most of my loops would go long and they would not allow me the big angles I get on them because they would not drop near the net when I want them to.

The axis of the spin on my loop is a pretty simple side top. But it would be cool as hell to be able to get a corkscrew spin off a forehand topspin stroke. But to get that spin your racket would actually have to be moving sideways over or under the ball: forward momentum on the stroke would prevent the corkscrew spin from occurring.
