Joanna Parker of team GB faced Brazil's Caroline Kumahara. Joanna's style is defensive and there are not many or if any Latin America styles to match Joanna's. Caroline found it very difficult to get a rhythm in her game. Parker mixed the spin and won in four straight sets with scores 11-7, 11-5, 11-9, 11-9. The strong 5000 spectators erupted with joy as Parker sealed the final point.

Drinkhall took charge of the short game which allowed him to dictate the rally with his strong forehand topspin. Paul is often compared to the Chinese due to his powerful forehand play.
