Yes indeed. As far as the time before Christ (BC), purple dye is quite on the rare side, thus making it expensive, hence makes it available only to the rich and the royal..

Oh, the Romans associated purple with royalty. The Ancient Greeks had similar associations, but not only with purple. This is where rolling out the red carpet comes from as well. When Agamemnon comes back from Troy, Clytaemnestra rolls out a red carpet for him to walk on. Once he walks on it, he is damned because, only the gods are supposed to walk on such fine material and by walking on the red carpet Agamemnon is basically making this statement: "I am godlike, because I have won this war and returned." This, for the Ancient Greeks, is an example of hybris. It is part of her setup for killing him.

So, roll out the purple blade and face the wrath of the Table Tennis gods. :)

Hold it right there tinykin!
Does that mean that you want to buy it and kindly review it for us?

Just to satisfy your curiosity, here's one I bought earlier.

Naturally, I have disguised it to prevent attacks from the Occupy Nittaku activitists.

But if you want a review I'll direct you to my staff who will negotiate the appropriate fee.

Oh my goodness. :) I think that is the blade I saw being auctioned at Sotheby's in the 1950s. :)
