Problem with Glue

Hi everybody, I recently started to experience many problems with my rubbers. In fact, in one month or so, they start to come off near the edges. It had never happened before and a friend of mine suggested that it could be due to the rubber that doesn't adhere totally to the blade (because of a ding I made some months ago.) Has anybody ever had similar problems?

There are a few possible common things could be going on.

Number 1 most common is you glue on a rubber, but you didn't do a good enough job of using enough glue on the sponge and getting it into the sponge pores. You might be able to adhere it to the blade and play a month, then have it start to separate one cm all the way on each side. That is real easy to do if you rush your glue job or try to do it all in one coat.

Another thing is certain rubbers shrink with certain glues and especially if the bond was weak, this can happen.

You could also have what you describe, an irregular surface.

You could also have a sealing varnish job that was heavy on the outside.

You could also have a heavy overall varnish job and that makes it difficult for the rubber to stay adhered to the blade.

Maybe you actually missed brushing on glue there. it happens to the best of 'em. Sometimes, the light isn't perfect and we think we brushed glue on there (especially when re-gluing a rubber back on a blade).

I started having these problems just one or two months ago, so I'd leave out the sealing problem (that was made by TT11.) The person that glues my rubbers has always glued them perfectly so I doubt that he'd do the same mistake more than once, although that's possible. In case of irregular surface what should I do? Sand it?

You get that from a dent. I read recently somewhere that you could iron over that and "pop out" that dent, something that woodworkers seem to know.

Why not try a re-glue job? Chances are, that is what will fix your problem most of the time.
