FH:
1. Ma Long - hands down the best. I wanted to review his godly HF status, watched the latest China Grand Smash final against LSD and.... Jesus Christ, almost every full-swing forehand attack by ML finished the point, LSD just couldn't return or start rallying.
2. Wang Chuqin - IMO, he is praised for his backhand because opponents would rather play to his backhand, because his forehand attacks are instant kills.
3. Jang Woojin - I am amazed how competitive he is despite playing almost solely via forehand.
4. Fan Zhendong - definitely far from the most powerful, but the consistency, placement, and ability to rally are incredible.
5. Truls / Anton - not that good at rallying, but the 3rd ball attacks are FIRE.

BH:
1. Fan Zhendong - LSD might be more spectacular, but the versatility and consistency of FZD's backhand is something else.
2. Lin Shidong - the only player who is likely to win a rally 3+ meters away from the table using only backhand.
3. Lin Yun-Ju - flick god, less consistent tho.
4. Wang Chuqin - less consistent than the 3 above.
5. Tomokazu Harimoto - incredibly good near the table, best blocks.

Félix nº4 in the world but in almost no rankings here. I wonder how he is so high ranked without any strong asset
Because imo his by far best assets is his speed and control and footwork to be in position it's his repeated quickness that makes him good. A bit like young harimoto but less blocky

Remember waldner didn't have a very impressive backhand or forehand overall however as a package he is one of the best to ever do it because the game is about a lot more than who can play the hardest and spinners strokes

Interesting that Ma Long does have the best forehand, but it's not for power (among the top players that would be Aruna for sure) or shot quality. As Dima said to Dan, it's his variety, how well he reads the game, how long he can wait and watch before committing to a shot.
I'd say Noshad Alamiyan is the closest thing to the Ma Long of backhands. It's amazing how effective he is considering his compromised forehand. His great serve is a big part of the story, but still hard to believe how well he control points with his backhand against elite players.

Felix still beats every other player in backhand-backhand rallies besides Fan Zhendong. Plus his backhand is the main part of his game -- forehand is an afterthought for him. In light of this, I don't see how anyone can argue that he doesn't have the second-best backhand in the world.

Because he also struggles a lot more than the rest at finishing points with one big backhand.

He has a great great rallying backhand at the table and imo it's probably no 2

But he is so much worse at opening loops, kill shots and flicks.
