Updated because I moved up two league levels and the analysis compared to my peers has changed.
Hey everyone,
I come to you looking for advice or general reflection. I have a technical issue with my backhand which causes me to drop a lot of points.
Background:
I reintroduced in table tennis 5 years ago after a 15-year break.
Currently playing Butterfly OuterForce ALC with Factive on both sides and the idea was to develop a standard all-round attacking playstyle.
Strengths and weaknesses
So, with this set-up, and relative to players in my league [updated for this], my qualities, and weaknesses:
Analysis
Clearly FH dominant player,
My opponents pin me down on my backhand playing deep low balls and I've got nothing, sadly still true but I can pivot however not for multiple matches in a row.
Strategy (in order of priority)
1. Don't neglect serves and FH consistency training
1. Need to work on BH receive of serve
1. Need to work on my BH in general
4. Need to work on my footwork for
4a. players who play with little to no spin (Short pips, blockers, beginners
)
4b. tactical options from short FH, Flick and push placement

Strengths and weaknesses
So, with this set-up, and relative to players in my league [updated for this], my qualities, and weaknesses:
- Very good forehand topspin attack away from the table and close to the table.
- Ok forehand smash, drive.
- Ok forehand push, block and over the table, I hardly ever flick on this side.
- Good backhand push, block and play over the table.
- Ok topspin
- Ok backhand chop if away from table.
- Weak backhand, drive, and flick.
- Weak adaptability on backhand
- Very good serves from both sides.
- Too weak on serve return, specifically on long BH
- Ok footwork
- Ok strategy
- Ok mentally.
