On my last trip to China I experienced something 'new' to me, a look inside the world of 'residential table tennis'. A lot of people think in China that residences are not so popular for table tennis since apartment spaces are usually small and people don't have much individual space. You can occasionally see one or two outdoor tables.
My friend invited me to an apartment complex where they had an old rec room with some beat up tables - but the community had pooled their resourced together, replaced the tables with tournament level tables, and put down red rubber flooring. It was a small place, but it felt like playing in a club honestly, and it had its own charm.
I played against a handful of players, they even invited some stronger players from the neighbouring communities to come and play against me.
I had a great time and worked up a crazy sweat in the humid weather.
