After the earthquake on 11 March, 2011, followed by the Tsunami catastrophe and the damages to the nuclear power plant in Fukushima we have received countless Emails, phone calls and letters from all over the world.

We appreciate very much the encouraging words and the concern expressed in these messages. This means support and encouragement to us.

All Butterfly staff members continue to work very hard in order to develop and supply the best possible table tennis products to all table tennis fans.

Many of our customers approached us and asked the justified question if Butterfly products can be supplied further on in time and in full.

Even though we also – in the Tokyo region – noticed this earthquake and in spite of the scheduled limited power supply I am happy to confirm that personally we did not suffer from any damages or had any troubles in production.

Hereafter follow some specific questions with our answers:

1) Are all staff members and their families alright?
Under the present circumstances all co-workers and their families are ok. However, some of their family members reported damages to their houses, others had to be evacuated and now live in emergency accommodation.

2) Did office and production facilities of Tamasu Co., Ltd. suffer from this catastrophe?
Fortunately all our buildings, the production facilities and also all of our stock have not been harmed.

3) Did some of customers, suppliers or table tennis schools suffer from damages?
According to our information we know about 30 such cases as follows:
52 % customers/table tennis specialist shops
27% regional associations
14% table tennis schools
7% suppliers
We have already started to support these suffered persons and organisations as much as we can.

4) Is there any cause for concern that Butterfly products could be contaminated?
For the time being there is no reason for such concern. Our head office as well as our plant are more than 200 km away from the Fukushima power plant. This means that the present potential nuclear pollution of our products can be considered harmless. Even in case that the situation should substantially turn worse there is no risk of danger; all goods are very carefully checked on a possible contamination. Any such export of contaminated products is prohibited.

5) Does Butterfly expect supply shortages on a long run due to the limited power supply?
Customers and players have no need to worry that our production is affected by the limited power supply. At this stage, however, it is not possible to tell whether the production capacity will be limited on the long run. On the other hand, the working hours of our staff members have been adjusted to the periods of power supply and thus delays in shipment can be avoided as good as possible. With regard to TENERGY rubber, the number of orders has surpassed our scheduled produc-tion. We thank our customers for the confidence shown in the product but at the moment we cannot meet demand. All our staff members are working tirelessly to meet outstanding orders. The quality of TENERGY has not been affected; as with all other rubbers produced by Butterfly the product is not contaminated and is safe to use.

6) Does Butterfly consider to move the production to Western Japan?
For the time being we see no reason for such step which obviously could not be done from today to tomorrow. Here in Tokyo we live relatively normally and of course watch what is going on everyday. In general we notice that few companies are moving, in a medium term we do not consider this step.

7) Did the catastrophe have any influence on the market value of your company?
Even though Tamasu Co., Ltd. is a stock corporation the shares are not traded at the stock exchange. Neither the value of the company nor the shares are therefore negatively influenced.

8) Is everything alright with the Japanese top players and their families?
We have been in touch with all players who confirmed that they and their families are doing well. Also the high performance centers where the players practise have suffered no damage. The participation at the 2011 World Championships and the relating training camps are not in danger.

9) Can the Japan Open (Kobe, July 2011) and the Japan Youth Championships (Aomori, August 2011) be run as schedulded?
The Japan’s Association have decided to hold the Japan Open as scheduled. So far as the Japan Youth Championships are concerned there has been no decision yet; it is necessary to wait for an official confirmation.
We will be issuing further information to the public in case of important changes or news.
