Hey guys,
just had the idea of creating a thread about tactics against the top players. You can simply write the name of the player in your post and add your tactic to it. I will start now!

Ovtcharov:
-play spinny serves short into forehand and push always short into FH
-change BH and FH quickly so he can't perform his topspins(tactic used by Fan Zhendong at German Open)

Yeah, you can have the best tacticians by your side, but without the necessary skills set to implement it, your "short spinny serves" will not cause a problem to the likes of Dima.

However something that can be added to this thread is that the Chinese coaches always teach the "under dog player" - your opponent is stronger than you, they should win, not you. They have pressure to win, not you. All you need to do is deuce it. When there is a chance, go for the lead, by deuce its like: 1-1/2-2/5-5/8-8 etc.

Regarding tactics, then it depends on your oponents condition on the day. What if your Dima example, that Dima is on fire on all FH strokes. Unless you play the same speed or faster than FZD (not too many players out there can match FZD)

Well, I know there are many members on here interested in your topic... This is what funny thing I learned from here and still can't stop laughing whenever I have a chance to remind it =)))

Player: Ma Long (WR: No.1, joined main squad of CNT from 16 yo)
Tactics against: SHORT GAME ONLY BABE
Evidence: WTTC 2013 - semifinal where he lost against Wang Hao (very long well-written analysis with many details defined what the short game looks like, and how to launch it, right here )
Conclusion from those analyses: Ma Long is nothing, just somebody out there can remind his opponents, especially Zhang Jike and Wang Hao, to use short game, they will surely win LOL

Come on guys, please stay away top 10 or even 20 players if you wanna launch this kind of topic, not only here but everywhere, or it is just sort of a funny joke :) Unless you have been training hard like them, spending day and night playing and thinking how to improve and overcome the weakness, as well as got a good coaching in very good system like CNT or other countries where top players are from, then your points will be worth reading.

If you still wanna convince your points are wise and on right track to take all top players down, lets think why they still survive in top ranking for so long even though their weakness has been revealed/exposed by many super smart amateurs on TTD

Come on, guys! It's clear that TTD amateurs can't reveal the super tactics against someone professional. But regarding how top players are using the weaknesses(means weaknesses for professionals, not for us) of the other player is pretty interesting. You can post tactics against specific playing styles too if you want. And BTW I liked the (ironic) analysis of bricephan.

Okay...

My serves are really good.
So against all of them, i'm going to serve and 3rd ball.
I will go 3rd ball into the body, 5th ball with be a strong top spin drive into the FH area, and then I have opened up the opponent. Then I will go to the BH side or just do a gentle block to bring the player in, and will drive to FH side again.
I'm sure this can work with 80% of the players in the top 50

Are you looking for something like this?

And to think that from 2010 or 2011 people start realising that Ma Long has a short game weakness, and he did nothing to overcome his weakness and yet all pingpong player will only execute the short game tactics against ML during WTTC and not any other tournament and still the only top 10 ranked player that has the short game weakness for more than 2 years and still became the 1st ranked player in the world. Now this is funny
