Tenergy and Dignics life Span

Hello,

I have one question. My friend has tenergies on his timo boll alc. They are 1.5-2 years old. They look worn out and don't feel really grippy. But, he can produce tremendous spin with them on chops and topspins. Moreover, he says that this the benefit of butterfly rubbers like tenergy and dignics that they last for a long time. Is that true? If this is the case then the high price of tenergy is justified. Isn't it? What have your experiences been with the durability of dignics and tenergy?

I can't speak for Dignics (yet), but Tenergy does last a long time - Much longer than other rubbers in my experience, and justifies the price tag (ish).

Everyone is different, but I find there is significantly less need to adjust your shots as the Tenergy gets older, compared with some of the other rubbers where the playing characteristics change significantly enough that you need to adapt your strokes.

Tenergy typically declines in equal amounts throughout its life, where as other rubbers will have a sharp decline after the first few months, and then gradually decline from that point.

Some people (Carl, for instance), gets on absolutely fine with something like MX-P, even after the initial boost has dropped off.

But if you buy MX-P and absolutely love it out of the box, I think you'll likely be disappointed with it's performance 3 months down the line.

Lastly, even old Tenergy can produce a good amount of speed and spin - The downside will be consistency, as you might be able to produce good shots if you have time (and good technique), but if you are in a fast paced battle, you'll realise that those shots that used to drop in, are sailing long, and your serves aren't quite as snappy etc.

It's small margins, but for some people it's the difference between winning and losing.

Same opinion as NDH. I've also used Dignics 05 and found it even more durable than Tenergy, enough to justify the higher price.

I liked new pair of Tenergy 05 for approximately its first 7-8 weeks, when I used to train up to 15 hours/week. After that sponge was too far away from its original properties, and it was not comfortable for me to play with it and I used to replace it. Topsheet was still fine though. I know people that are satisfied with it for ~ 1 year. It all depends on how you play with it.

No, topsheet loses some grip sooner. D05 outlasts any rubber I've used.

I will never have the good fortune to find out how long my rubber last nor its lifespan due to my EJ curse. 😨
