Many of you already know me. Some of you have not seen me active on the forum for a while.

I am no longer able to be on the forum. In my real world life, I am just too busy these days to give the forum what it needs in terms of moderation.

If you think this forum needs active moderation from members who act like adults and are on the forum, feel free to respond here and ad an @Dan to your post.

Some of you know that, for years I was asking for others to be added to the list of active moderators. Probably, if the forum had a few in several different time zones so that, there was a potential for things to be seen sooner, it would be good. I do remember 100s of times over the past decade+ of actively moderating, getting messages at 3am (NYC time) from people in different time zones around the world about things happening on the forum. Probably a team of moderators would be ideal. But even one would be better than none.

Even though I have not been on the forum for more than 10 min in the past 6 months, I can tell things on the forum are getting more and more like the wild west.

@Dan : I have a feeling, from what I see, that it is long past time that new moderators jump on. If you set anyone up for that, I will be happy to help them know some of the tools I used for uncovering chronically returning forum trolls like Keith Lim or SJan. I will also be happy to show them ways I used for spotting and cleaning spam accounts before they got onto the forum.

But, I have a feeling, the forum really needs some moderation and it is just not happening.

I am sorry: I just don't have the time these days to do that. But new faces and new input would probably be ideal anyway. With just under 200 posts in the reported posts column that have not been addressed, it seems that something probably should be done.

There are a few tweaks that might be helpful without having to increase moderator workload:
- have a longer cooldown between posts
- don't have the ability to start threads, post links until a certain level of activity has been reached
- translate links within the forum to human readable format (this one is specifically for the zeio rabbit hole posts)
- disable double posting completely.
- make forum rules clear, unambiguous and easy to find (I have no idea if, or where)
- automatically detect unwanted behaviour like a new account posting dozens of replies in a very short time.

That being said, yes, this forum needs more active moderation, and the owners should be putting in the effort.

Don't new users' threads have to be approved first? My first post and thread was - unsurprisingly - about equipment advice and I had to wait a bit until it was published. Seems like this point is already covered by the mods.

The rest of the points across both posts above sounds fine!

in this case the mistake was to fuel the fire. it would have been better to ignore the foul posts.

cheers

Valid opinion. I think it should have been prevented by not allowing a repeat offender to post in the first place

@Dan I wholeheartedly agree with this thread's intentions. In fact, I wanted to open the same thread myself.

I think it's very telling that one of the most recurring themes/questions on the boards, lately, is "how to use the ignore function for a specific user"...

Thank you @UpSideDownCarl for pointing this out.

Being european I want at least to be the umpire for Tony vs zeio matches. It's like seing banana republics politicians fighting against each others like in a MMA hexagon.
Also, would you be kind enough to moderate those arrogant americans that butcher any rest of the world names ? "Dan Que" seriously ?

Come on...

Anyway yeah feel free to moderate me on that one.

The perfect answer is: name any UK user as a moderator here:
1- they speak and write english WAY BETTER than anyone else here, they invented that language after all right ? for the scots as long as we don't hear them it's still fine (Hey, I've been in Stirling twice in my youth, trust me on that one...)

2- their ex-Empire being now the Commonwealth, not only the UK: there are plenty of well rounded english-speaking people at any time zone: indians, canadians, australians, south-africans to name a few.

USA: ah... sorry you don't belong to the Commonwealth, and you butcher too many names.

Yes a bit here and there is needed. This forum was much worse off when we had top engineer and that robonazi guy and Igor posting nonsense at the same time. Igor has for much better tbh. Those three alone destabilised a lot of posting.

The issue with Mr Lim is simple he is trolling for engagement and should be banned again. He keeps posting about women being on his "paddle" etc just to wind people up.

Onya mate! Strayans always flat chat doing hard yakka so's no earbashing from the Sheila, but fair dinkum, I reckon it'll be a rip snorter having a larrikin from any big smoke give it a burl. We'll give Dazza Queue's name a fair go.
