Did anyone else here play in this?
It was my first time going to it in Myrtle Beach. My previous and first time at the USOTC was the last time it was in Detroit, in 1997.
A terrible performance for me, as I went 3-12 and I’m sure my rating will take a hit. It was like I forgot how to play. Couldn’t make shots and had no touch, feeling, or strategy (especially against the kids). My serves also didn’t feel right, and were too easily attacked too often. I guess all deserved, with me not being able to play much going in to the tournament. I’ll have to come back and do better, if that’s at all possible at my age (50 now, my best was 25 years ago). My team (of 4 players) got knocked down one division and then won just 1 match - our first one in division play. Most of our matches were 5-0 or 5-1 so not as many singles matches as expected.
It seemed pretty well organized, at least for playing. Stadium helped a lot, though sometimes we and our opponents forgot to put in game scores (especially when I was using my phone for recording video), then forgot what the scores were lol. The lighting was a little dark and I needed to wear glasses (I’ve had LASIK but now need glasses in low light). Too bad there weren’t more spectators on the main table for the Division 1 matches, at least when I looked and before the final, which I had to leave early to go to the airport. I was in the security line at the same time as the Princeton Revolution players (who lost in the semis).
I also didn’t get to see the actual beach lol. The best chance was after my team’s prelims play was done on the first day before sunset but then a thunderstorm was approaching. The lightning was interesting to see before my Lyft ride back to the hotel arrived.
