Why’s CNT pushing Wang Chuqin so much instead of trying to make a new goat of Fan Zhendong who’s still the best player currently?

Because of fandom culture. Money talks. Prince' Moms are rich and willing to spend.

I get that they want to push younger players but they let Ma Long play so long, why don’t they do the same for Fan Zhendong?
because FZD has retired from the Chinese national team

A Sina article from 2017 on the implementation of 三次创业/Third Entrepreneurship first raised by Ministry of Science and Technology in 2011.

国乒“中年危机”?多虑了 刘国梁之路不会回头
https://sports.sina.cn/others/pingpang/2017-06-21/detail-ifyhfnrf9412759.d.html
The grandpas and grandmas in the stands were suddenly replaced by girls wearing all kinds of support items. The price of unsold tickets can now be doubled by scalpers. The national table tennis team has fallen into another dilemma. The fans who chase athletes in the same way as chasing stars complain that the national table tennis team cannot keep up with commercial operations, and passers-by who are used to the serious image of athletes begin to think that the national table tennis team is "not doing their job properly."
What should the national table tennis team do when they are in a dilemma? The answer given by the national table tennis team is that under the premise of maintaining the results, the road of "Third Entrepreneurship" must be taken. How far can the national table tennis team's "Third Entrepreneurship" go? No one knows. All we can see is that the national table tennis team, which used to play free exhibition games in universities at its own expense, can now support a direct-ticket-to-Düsseldorf [Marvelous 12 2017] with sponsorship, live broadcasts, publicity, packaging, audiences, and sold-out tickets. There will be no turning back on the road of "Third Entrepreneurship".

I think the Chinese fear Harimoto the most of all the foreign players. WCQ is really strong against him. Stronger than FZD to be honest. He's really good too so who else should they push?
Maybe FZD will return in Olympics??? I hope he will.

Ma Long is unique. Its very difficult to see FZD or WCQ or LSD as replacements.
It's not about their technical levels but issues of mental strength and character under pressure. Unfortunately CNT do not have a guaranteed recipe for producing a replacement
FZD could have replaced him. He was 1 Olympics and 1 world champs away to be the new GOAT. His mentality under pressure is just as great as Ma Long’s. Just watch the match between him and Harimoto from the Olympics.
I do think though that he would have retired earlier than Ma Long anyway as his style takes more toll on the body.

Even LJH can't help but takes note of the tension between FZD and WCQ, saying how they could be invincible if playing MD together...

韩林什么意思? (What does Korea's Lin mean?)

WCQ: People are beginning to catch on. Hurry FZD, touch my waist.

Ma Long said the future was his (FZD)
but FZD waited too long...

but seriously speaking, a lot of money was used to get Ma Long to play longer, since CNT was very brittle.
Fzd to me was burnt out and he left a bit too soon in the eyes of management

What's the gist of what was said here? Seems like they went over a lot in the interview
He talked a lot about the stress he was under, how everything he did was under a microscope, all sorts of conspiracy theories like how he's not getting along with someone else or whatever. He tried to take his mind off of things by going to a concert (I think he's referring to the Taylor Swift one) and even that got blown out of proportion. He felt very violated and shaken when the break-in incident happened (a fan broke into his hotel room and stole his underwear). He said he didn't know fame came with so much else besides just pressure to perform.

He said that he felt the worse in 2023, where he went through a real rough patch. The new WTT points system meant he had to play very often to maintain his rankings, and that every match was important for Olympics selection especially in a shortened 3 year course. He'd be leading 2-0 and then lose the match, because he'd hear something random like a camera shutter and suddenly feels that he no longer wanted to finish the match. He talked to specialists as well as teammates, it seems like other people aren't suffering the same way he did.

Before the Harimoto match in the Olympics he couldn't sleep well, woke up at 3AM. He said that whereas before he'd be mad at himself, like "why can't I even rest now?" But that day he decided to just go with it. He stayed up and watched a Real Madrid game (he's a big fan), saw Kroos retiring after the match. He felt inspired, and he wanted to go out like Kroos. He played a great match against Harimoto the next day, never thinking that he'd lose, and he didn't.

WCQ isn't even that much younger then FZD. I think FZD needed the break after Olympics and I think it will be good for him to play in Germany and get away from the crazy Chinese fans if that is even possible. Maybe he can reaquire his mental strength and then go be back an cnt
