Which other sports have 2 world title events?
There is a Fifa World Cup, but not a Fifa World Championship.
Some sports don't even have world title events, but rather grand slam events etc.

So what makes table tennis so special to have a world cup and world championship?
What is the reason to have 2 events?

Seems like not much answers.

Let me add.
WTTC is every 2 years (odd number years), while WTTTC is is inbetween WTTC.
While World Cup is every year and World Team Cup every 1 to 2 years.

WTTC has been around since 1926
WTTTC has been around since 2000
WC has been around since 1980 (womens in 1996)
WTC been around since 1990 but was canceled and relaunch in 2007

Table Tennis should have many World Title events....

Its make the sport more interesting. Nobody wants to wait 4 years to see a very tense and important match.

Regarding Tense/Important match, I think it can be debatable, as some World Tours will have much higher level than say a WC event.
But back to 4 years - I agree, that is way too long (for some other sport). But table tennis have WC every year, so this year its WTTTC with WC.
Last year there is WTTC with WC and WTC

So whats the reason to have 3 major world titles in 1 year? (excluding other big games like grand finals or olympics)

Why we mustn't?

Lol, I knew you would reply something like this.

Will firstly, are you able to answer why in the first place? If you can't, then why are you trying to reply a question with another question?

To answer your question - too much "world" title will devalue some of it.
Imagine, there is now the World Trophy title, then World Medal titles.
We can see that WC and WTC is already not a huge priority
WC - is silly as if the player cannot make continental cup, they can't make WC. So to qualify for WC, the challenge is to "beg" the national body to select them for Cont Cup..... Unlike WTTC and OG, where qualifiation is a lot more fair.
WTC, we can already see how certain players/country view this, as many top players was rested in the last edition.

So again, why do we have so many? is it marketing purpose? Is it a corporate thing? or simply, is it the best interest of the sport?
Again, other sports - more succesful ones, don't have so many world title events, some don't even have one at all.

Imagine there was only WTTC every 4 years. Then you should wait 4 years to see all of the top players in action at same time. Because not all of them will be in pro tours.
So the calender of TT will be Pro tour, Pro tour, Pro tour,...
It will be very boring.
having so many world titles will devalue some of them but it's better than having noting except of pro tours.

More succesful sport can be succesful for several reasons like they are more interesting to watch. TT will be bring to watch on TV because the people that doesn't play it, can't understand it.
And if the want to play it then, who wants to play a sport with the speed of 0.5 m/s and miss the ball half of times. So they go and play football and hit the ball with 30 m/s speed!

I agree WTTC every 4 years is silly, and I feel current condition of WTTC is fine.
As it stands, it is every 2 year (odd number year) whle WTTTC is every even number year.
But WTTC and WC and WTC in the same year is a bit silly. WC and WTC therefore has less value than WTTC - by a long way.

TV - total derailing of this subject imo
Playing TT or not - total derailing of this subject imo.
Unless the reason for 3 titles in a year (or 4 when its is Olympic year) is to increase participation of TT from supporters TV coverage and playing perspective. Than oppose to top players playing out to become world title holders?

So Alborz, care to answer OP question - Why does TT have so many World Titles in 1 year?

Regarding your pro tour, or rather world tour after one another will be very boring.... simply some sports can make that not boring. And in fact, some world tour participation, prize money etc is higher than some world title events. So what makes this world title event become then? Little value?

I think you are putting too much value in the word "world". Just because it's a world event doesn't mean it's very important. In tennis they have 4 grand slams a year and that doesn't make any of them less important ( they have the difference of being played in different surfaces). In WWE you have world championships all the time and lots of people pay to see those fights. I agree that a world event should be the most important tournament, just behind the olympics, but i guess TT is different.

Yep, I agree, it all got to do with the word "World".
World is a big word, but some just have more weight than others.
In Tennis, it is grand slam, and I feel TT should follow Tennis method, as it is simliar style of match structure - singles/doubles/teams. Maybe take some major world tours and make it a grand slam + WTTC and WTTTC.

But since we have WTTC/WTTTC + WTC + WC + maybe OG.....we sure are a big sport to have so much titles lol

But i simply see nothing bad in it.

Some world tours has more prize money than WC but it doesn't make it more important. WC is a major because its name is "World Cup". And it happens less than other events.

Plus Continental titles...

On the other hand tennis also has the Davis Cup, which is a world event, and is not as nearly as popular as the grand slams. In TT, at least the team and singles events are about the same

Yeah, Continental titles I can understand.
But now, we have continental championship and continental cup lol

It feels like 2 different groups (championship and Cup) wants to own the "world title", but only this 2 different group is infact 1 group - ITTF
So who is the world champion? the championship winner or cup winner? lol

Some world tours has more prize money than WC but it doesn't make it more important. WC is a major because its name is "World Cup". And it happens less than other events.

You are right to say World Cup is more important, simply because it is labled World by ITTF.
But over the years, the quality of WC is not as high. And in fact for some players (ie Chinese), it is one of the easiest titles to win, more easy than some world tours to be honest.

WC is already a big question mark. WTC is even a bigger one.

To me, if there is no value, then call it something else. And only have 1 World Title event.
Now since there is 2 world titles at the moment (champ/cup), they must be a good explantion right?

Does anybody recall what was the reason why WC came to be in 1980?

Tennis has 5 important events per year: 4 Grand Slams + 1 Davis CupTable tennis has 3: WC + WTTC +WTCTony, still you think TT has too many major events?!

Grand Slam is a "world tour" too. Its fine to call some world tour a GS and say it is a major title. However I am talking about world title here.
For example, some people will say the China Open is higher than WC and even OG. But in TT, we leave it as a world tour and not world title or major title or grand slam.
Note, TT has only 20 world tours in a year, while tennis has a few folds more - where 4 world tours are considered Grand Slam status.

This is where I think tennis is doing so well. There is no complicated entry requirement for the 4 GS (world tours), and it is such an important date in the year. Any one can take part.

But now, we have WTTC - limited to 5~7 players per country (fair in a way), WTTTC I would say is okay, as it is teams event. Then WC + WTC - these 2 should fall away and we should launch few major tour titles too - Grand Slam should we call it.

Seems like you are really happy to see TT professional circut as it is?
