4 months left of this season...

And Diaz just got a ZPP for skipping WTT CS Yokohama 2026, so only 7 events counting. Though there is still a slight chance if SYB falters and Diaz wins at CHN GS 2026 and does well in the remaining CS...

This second round and quarter final draw has some serious box office potential. That said, only if the players figure out how to make it interesting against their nemesis opponents...

Have Sora and Hugo played before? Struggling to remember.... the answer must be no...

Always off lately.
Something wrong. Psych or physical I’m not sure but he’s not in the game.
Hen he plays someone he has never beaten before who knows how to handle his offspeed shots, he gives up after he can't find a way in. Completely reasonable though, so far these players have been rare and extremely strong (higher ranked than he is).

Finally someone decided losing 0-3 was not thr way to go!
There's kind of a difference tho, Miwa spanked, while I dont know if it was Kallberg's strategy in play or not but Coton had so many mistakes it feels like he beat himself.

Lacks growth mindset then. Giving up is not logical to that mindset and one time out of ten the opponent has a freak out about a let chord, gets injured or just starts thinking about the argument they had with their girlfriend last night. Then you win and start the ball rolling towards beating them agaian and again.
I don't recommend giving up.

This might be Duda's best chance to get a decent amount of ranking points back after his recent early exits.

Kallberg and Lebrun are both beatable for him, hope he makes the semis at least (not holding my breath for him to beat Matsushima, who I am assuming will be his opponent).

Giving up is the outside appearance, he can speak for himself. Honestly when your game is not working but you are trying to win, there is a fine line between looking like you have given up and trying to stay engaged when you are getting no positive feedback. Thats why I stress that the opponents have been higher ranked so it is not like he is choking to players he should beat. Harimoto and Sora as two examples just know how to control him.

What you describe is equally a choke but one of attentional control rather than challenge and threat. Both manifest neurophysiologically and can have crossover symptoms but challenge and threat is more hormonal and transitional (can be fought out of). In his case the ventromedial prefrontal cortex will be over engaged and the amygdala not working for him either. Usually this kind of choke snowballls.

We can agree to disagree, in the face of binary results even with different underlying scores, the paths taken to victory are not obvious and calling risk taking of a certain kind a choke doesn't realistically grapple with the dilemma. It is hard to choke to a player who beats you every time if you haven't figured out a path to win points.

No disagreement. That's another possibility.

Yea was gonna mention this, when watching his games against Tomo and Sora the match up for him just sucks, it's hard to keep his energy high when winners he'd get against WCQ are so easily handled.

It's an open question about choking - can you generally choke to a higher ranked or more established player? Yes but most of the time I am not convinced. That's my broad defense of Lin Gaoyuan, the moat legendary choker of all time.

Assuming your interptetation is right, remind us again, how many medals in WTTC singles do Mizutani and S. Hirano have?

Again as others have pointed out WYD was the defending bronze medalist in that match against Hina. Hina defeated her to replace her as the bronze medalist. Again other than Hirano, no one had beaten Wang Yidi at the time. It is easy now to engage in latter day revisionism that it was the least one could do. History always seems obvious in retrospect but the statistics at the time do not support your argument.
This medal argument is getting old. Come up with another one. As I've stressed repeatedly, you're arguing not just with yourself but also the players and coaches.

Once again, did ML care about the major medals when he picked Harimoto as the best non-CNT player and not Moregard or Felix? Or HS when he rated Harimoto and LYJ above the others by a margin, specifically Felix? Or the fans in China when they raised the point how Hirano achieved 3-in-a-row wins against the CNT in 2 Olympic cycles that even Ito pales in comparison and how Hayata poses the least threat, despite the fact that Li Sun saw the most potential in Hayata at ATTC 2017?

P.S.

@Tony's Table Tennis please forgive zeio. He had a bad week last week. His naughty list players became national champions.
You too make me chuckle. I've spent all these years following the progress of Hayata and I told you at the start of the selection (05/05/2022 at 1:01pm) that she needed more titles (not medals, and ideally getting through multiple CNT players that Harimoto and Mizutani also concur) to be on equal footing with Hirano and Ito.

At the end of the day, I'm not a fanboy like some of you here who turns a blind eye to a player's shortcoming that can be fixed.
