Is there a reason the tournament is in 2024 but is titled 2023?
The WTT Finals for 2023 were supposed to last for 7 days instead of 3 days. The ones for 2022 and 2021 lasted for 4 days.

The original plan:
China Grand Smash Qualifier TBD, China (CHN): 8-10 Nov
China Grand Smash Main draw TBD, China (CHN): 12-19 Nov
WTT Cup Finals (Female) TBD, TBD/Asia (TBD): 20-26 Nov
WTT Cup Finals (Men) TBD, TBD/Asia (TBD): 4-10 Dec

How it panned out:
WTT Contender Taiyuan, China(CHN): 6-12 Nov
ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu (CHN): 4-10 Dec
WTT Finals Women Nagoya, Japan (JPN): 15-17 Dec
3-5 Jan: WTT Finals Men Doha 2023 (QAT)

Looks like compare to earlier gens like Ma Long, XX,... the young guns really have a shorter stroke. Their upper arm doesn't travel forward to let the lower arm completes the rest of the trajectory, whereas ML swings his whole arm forward along with folding the lower arm

Good observation.

The shorter stroke reflects the emphasis on BH rally.

This is the type of tournament that Harimoto could win. He often is a very hot and cold type of player. If he can get hot for 2 or 3 matches, he could beat FZD and or WCQ and win the tournament.

I feel like he struggles more in the big tournaments where he has to play from the round of 64. When he needs to win 5 matches in a row, he inevitably draws one of his cold sessions and can lose to anybody in the top 50.

Very different from ML or WCQ who tend to maintain their level from match 1 to 5. I think FZD also tends to be a little more variable.

Good analysis. I feel that he plays better against CNT players. Simply because he’s been aiming to defeat the CNT his whole life. I hope Harimoto can maintain a high level for longer in this tournament.

This is it exactly. I think among the CNT, FZD is his favourite scapegoat in recent years too.
